GT weight loss program

I've seen a lot of information on reducing the weight of our stangs. Some had the specific amount of weight that would be lost for each specific mod. However, I have seen no consistent information for the rear seat delete kits available for the S197. I'm 6' 2", and nobody I know can fit in my back seat when I'm driving. Besides, Ford should have designed our cars (or given the option) to have no rear seat anyway! It seems like an inexpensive way to further reduce weight. I've seen statements of 20 to 40 pounds. Obviously this includes removing all the connecting and seat belt hardware as well. Anyone have any opinions on rear seat delete kits? MMR and Americanmuscle are two kits I've seen, so far. Also, are there any installation issues with this mod?

I don't know about the rear seat delete but removing your spare tire and jack is about 30lbs

Thanks, but I already did that, along with removing the shaker 1000 subwoofer and its amps. Some of my other mods have help reduce weight also (aluminum driveshaft/flywheel and off-road h-pipe). With everything I've done to lighten my GT, I know pretty how much weight has been reduced from the car. That's why I'm trying to find how much weight is lost with a rear seat delete kit. It's certainly not an appearence mod, in my opinion. It's not as clean a look as having a rear seat, but I'm cutting weight off the car by ridding myself of a useless item.

I removed and weighed mine a while back and it's only 23lbs.

Don't forget to drain the windshield washer reservoir.

Thanks for weighing it. This seems a little more realistic.

You can lose 46lbs off the front end with a BMR K-member and radiator support/swaybar delte kit.

Lose another 11lbs off the front with new A-arms.

The only hardware is 4 bolts which all together can't weight more than 1.5lb if that.

The rear seat feels like 10lbs in my hands, but given that it's really 23lbs, maybe the 30+lbs figure comes from also removing the seat backs? I could see those weighing about 10lbs. (Or does the 23lbs include that?)

Having removed the entire rear seat, it feels like the whole thing is maybe 25lbs if that. The numbers I've heard on the stock driveshaft are 46lbs and the Coast aluminum driveshaft weights about 17lbs. So pretty close to 30 lbs, yeah.

The new MMR rear seat delete arrived today, and I just finished installing it. Removed the rear seat and seat belts, along with every nut, bolt, bracket I could find. Weighed everthing, and it totalled around 30 lbs. I was hopng for a larger number than that, but at least the fitment of the MMR kit looks clean. Oh well, time to start saving for lighter rims, lol. Btw, the entire removal/install should take about 30 minutes if you have the right tools. You'll need a standard socket set and a large Torx bit (3/8") to remove all the hardware.

It was 23lbs including the seatbacks. Only thing I didn't remove were the the brackets for the child seats and I guess the seatbelts if you want to count that.
