My GT automatic transmission appears to be slow / late shifting into 4th gear. Sometimes it even shifts hard, sort of like there is a shift kit installed.

Has anyone else noticed this "problem" ? Or, is this the normal GT automatic tranny shift pattern?

Please advise. Thanks.

I'm not saying mine is "bad"; that is what I am trying to determine.

Mine snaps off 1-3 real quick. Very firm shifts. It defineately hangs in 3rd the longest before going into 4th. Totally normal. But you're right to ask the question, IMO this is the firmest auto I've ever driven. I likey

Tony / SixtySix: As always you came through for me. What you described in more detail is EXACTLY what mine is doing. I just wnated to be sure this is OK / normal.

Mike... I will concur. First and especially second gear go by very fast. Third stays around for while. Just must be the shift points in the auto tranny. I wouldn't change them for anything though.

All,

I couple ?'s.

1. Do you notice that the transmission learns your driving habits as advertised in the owners guide CDROM? After a lot of slow driving I notice the firmness of
the shifts soften somewhat and the shift points change. I return to "normal" after
disconnect/reconnect the battery.

2. Do you know if any of the flash programmers can control this stuff?

Thanks,
Jim

1. Yes, I do notice it's learning behaviors, but it changes as my driving does. I think the first few weeks of ownership it was VERY confused. I'd go from all out top speed blasts to slow going commute to twisty action....in the same day! I always tend to open it up at least once a day to remind her of what she is

2. Don't know.

I read somewhere that this happens because there is a big gap in the gearing between 3rd and 4th. No way to fix unless you change 4th gear.

I've noticed mine has trouble downshifting out of 4th gear to 3rd. It hesitates and seems like it doesn't want to downshift without a lot of gas peddle. I can't say I noticed this when it was new, it started happening about a month ago. Any ideas??? It really irritates me when it does it, everything else about the trans I love.

LilHog,

That's one of the things I noticed also after you drive it for awhile, it
"learns" how it thinks you want to shift. Try this disconnect the battery, reconnect
I think you will see the shifts are now quicker and firmer, and downshift happen
fast like thet did before. I read about this remedy in another post and said what
the heck, I would try it. Very surprised it worked. I'm trying to find out if the flash programmers can fix this and so far cannot get a answer from either company, SCT ot Diablo. Seems they avoid questions about the auto's like the plague.

Actually guys, that's what I was reffering to when I spoke of "getting on it once a day to remind her who she is".

The disconnecting the battery thing work's for sure. But then you have to reset your clock. I like my clock

What happens is that if you've been driving mellow for a good while, say a couple of days of commuting in heavy traffic. It shifts conservatively.

But I find if I at least "get on it" once a day, it doesn't go conservative on me.

Yes SixtySix I think that is good advice, will try to clear-out the carbon at
least once everytime I drive it. And elvism I looked at their write-up on the
auto, sounds like a shop the really cares about the details, imagine they
will work up a good tune after all the work they do. Thanks for the advice and pointer to the article.

Is there an sct/diablo tune the will stop the computer from "learning"? I have also noticed that after awhile the car "tames" itself. It would be nice for it to keep the tune you flash for it and not try to "learn" anything.
