Granatelli Rotors + Hawk Pads: Noisy!

I installed Granatelli slotted and dimpled rotors along with Hawk HPS pads, including anti-squeal on the back of the pads. They're functioning fine but are very, very noisy. Even when I'm not applying the brakes they make a tick...tick...tick...tick...tick sound. When I speed up it's tickticktickticktick and when I hit the brakes I get TICKTICKTICKTICKTICK.

What did I do wrong?!?

That noise is quite normal for slotted rotors. I have read that some people theorize that the cheaper made ones make the most noise, but I have no idea if there is any truth to it? Basically, you will have to get used to the noise.

You went wrong when you didn't upgrade the exhaust first. That way you wouldn't hear the brakes

Those are sport rotors made by EBC, the noise is from the dimples. I had them on my car for a while and I took the ticking for around 12k miles then I replaced them with the EBC slotted rotors. The EBC slotted rotors are as quiet as the stock rotors were.

Not sure if it would matter, but which way are they installed?? Each manufacture may be different, but according to TacoBill's write-up for RotorPros... "The inner most holes (closest to the hub) contact the brake pad FIRST when rolling forward." Here's a link to it as a reference... https://themustangsource.com/showthread.php?t=453294

Did you properly bed in the pads?

Again, the Granatelli slotted and dimpled rotors are EBC 3GD Drilled and Slotted Sport Rotors. Below is a quote from directly from EBC.
"One point to consider before making your choice of sport rotor is the air noise that can be noticed with sport rotors. With all slotted rotors there will be an increase in air noise as the rotor passes beneath the pads under normal driving and braking. Some people like this kind of "Turbo" sound and others do not."

I did install them in the correct direction and I did bed in the pads. I even called Granatelli beforehand to find out if they had a recommended procedure, which they did not. I told them the procedure for the Hawk pads and they said that would be fine.

It's probably worse for me because I always have the top down, but even with it up you can still clearly hear it when driving by barriers and other cars. It's actually a bit of an embarrassment in the parking garage at work.

IMHO they should warn you about this before you spend almost $400 on them. (Like EBC does, apparently.)

Yeah every company that i ask says the Dimpled rotors make worse noise than a normal slotted rotor. Since the air is trapped in the dimples when it goes under the pad, it makes a popping sound when it comes out.

www.ROTORPROS.net Rotors, Pads, Lines

Hi my name is Richard from www.ROTORPROS.net The noise you are experiencing is from the dimples.. It is ticking because of "trapped air" bouncing back and forth between your pads and your rotors.. It is really weird and only happens on some year, makes and models.. We recommend going for drilled and slotted, drilled only or slotted only to avoid this... ( stay away from the dimples ) It's not guaranteed they will make noise.. We have sold dimpled and slotted before without any issues. It can also be caused by the rotor / pad combo you are using..

Just to let you all know that www.ROTORPROS.net if offering great deals to all forum members.. All those interested email us for our lowest prices ever!! Mention this forum for great deals.. Thanks
