I had a Borla catback system put on my GT this past weekend. First let me say it does sound great! Nice deep growl to her now. We turn even more heads now that people can hear you coming. The 4" polished stainless pipes also make her rear end look so much better than the 2 1/2" stock pipes.

Now my question, yesterday I did a lot of in town driving, errands and such. I didn't understand exactly what the word "Drone" meant until yesterday. At 1900 - 2100 rpm I was introduced to it. It makes my ears feel as though I need to pop them (ya know like when you're on a plane). After a couple hours of running around it made my brain buzz.

I'm guessing you eventually get useto it?????

Give it a week or two. Putting the windows down really helps though.

Ok give the "girl" a break....... A new set of gears? Could you elaborate a little, or if I tell the husband this he'll know what I need.

Putting down the windows did help a little.......I tried that.

BTW, I was talking to Borla and they have a "baffle" (metal insert) which you can put into the pipe to reduce the drone. Might want to give them a call.

A new set of rear end gears. Usually a 3.73 for auto and a 4.10 for manual. They do make them higher for each also. It does not really increase your HP, but it makes you go faster. I think it would get rid of the drone at 1900 - 2100 rpm because gears makes your rpms slightly higher.

That leads to my question of, will gears just make the drone at 2200 - 2400 rpm?

darn, I was hoping the Borla didn't drone. The Borla exhaust on my Accord does the same thing. I hate it and I know its going to be worse on a V8. I guess I'm going to have to go with Magnaflow now. I don't understand why Borla can't work that drone out in their testing.

You have resonators right?? They eliminate most of the "drone" while cruising around town.

Ok JerseyGirl, here we go, resonators are right after the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter looks like an oval (it's wider than the pipes) on some cars. The resonators follow, they are about 2 ft in length and are not as wide as the catalytic converter, but are wider than the exhaust pipe itself. Hope this helps, if you have any more ?? let me know !

Just wait a few thousand miles until they get a little louder
Now for the resonators. is there room to even install them on the stang? Also, what is the point of installing such a nice exhaust system, and possibly get a slight performace gain, just to put resonators on to quiet the exhaust and possibly sacrafice some hp?

The gear will increase your RPMs ever so slightly ... The sweet spot for "drone" seems to be right around 2000 rpms. Get your tach above that and it goes away.
If you do not want to change gears, you will need to change your driving habits a little. Around town, drive in 3rd instead of going into 4th ... On highway ..depending on how long trip is, stay in 4th. on long trips, you will need to go to 5th ... Nothing you can do about it then.

I think it depends a lot on the way you drive. I tend to stay in a lower gear for longer than many people. I doubt I will have as big a problem.

Also, when I get mine I'll let you know what I think. Maybe it depends on the person.

I know one thing for sure, the borla does sound frigging awesome though. I'd like to see about this drone issue after I have them on.
