We're taking her to the track tonight and I have to admit I'm a little nervous. I tried to search and find what I was looking for, but I couldn't find it.

I won't be driving, obviously because I lack the experience which is fine by me. I would just like to know if anyone could help me to know what to expect the entire experience, for lack of better words, will look like. How squirrely can the car get? I don't want my overactive imagination to make me so nervous that it makes him nervous.

Thanks

You'll be fine, it's just like leaving from a traffic light.
You'll probably still get the butterflies, but there is actually nothing to it.
You're care isn't going to get "crazy sideways" if it is a stock GT.

Thanks. However I have a feeling it won't be exactly like leaving from a traffic light. He's taken off from a couple of stop lights that resulted in a little squirming from me in the pass. seat.

The car is stock, except for the exhaust.

We've gone to the track often and my parents raced until I came along. (my mom I believe was undefeated in her Mustang '67 or '69 I can't remember) Its just a little different when you're subjecting your daily driver to it even if it is this one time only. Hopefully I (he) can bring back some good numbers.

if it starts getting loose, just let off the gas, cruise to the end, and make another pass, not worth hitting the wall

That's the thing, I'm not driving. He did say he wished I had more experience going through the gears and knowing how the car "feels" so that I could run my own car. He's just afraid that I don't know how to react when it does whatever all those terms are that he uses and he's right. I'm learning, but slowly. I will end up running my own car one day!

Shannon,
You should drive and you should make it just like a traffic light. The first time out just accellerate briskly. No one expects you or anyone else to be acting like John Force. Just go out have fun and learn whats going on. The fast times will come later.

We've talked about me taking making one trip. I want to and he would like to see me do it as well, I just don't know if my nerves can handle it yet! I know it shouldn't matter, but it may come down to how many people are there. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out!

Forget about the people, they don't matter there in the stand's. IMO I think you should run your own car. It's a whole lot of fun and it will be an experiance that you will carry with you forever. Just point her at the finish line, your GT won't let you down! Now go race!!

The way I learned to race was starting out with a much slower car, had a '98 Mystique with 4-cylinder engine, got the hang of it with that, then bought an '02 Ranger with a 3.0 v6. Once I got tired of the v6, I decided it was v8 time.

When it came down to it I chickened out! We're going back in a few weeks but this time we're going to get there early before all the pro-stock people show up. I know I shouldn't pay attention to anyone else there, but those cars intimidated me...they're LOUD

He ran the car a couple of times and the first run :notnice: POO! I don't know what he did, world's largest brain toot or something, but he wasn't happy because my old V6 ran better than that first run. Second time was a little better, as was the third when he finally started getting the hang of it. He did say it ran different on the track as opposed to the street, and it looked that way to me. On the street he can launch it and bye-bye he's gone, but it just seemed to stay in one place for too long. Any ideas why and what I can do when we go back so that I can take him by suprise?

Be sure to stay clear of any water.

Drop your rear tires to about 25lbs, that may help you launch.

We figured out what his problem was last night. He completely forgot to drop the tire pressure. Next time we go I am definately making a pass. Although after we talked about it some more today he told me he wasn't sure that was such a good idea. He thinks I'm addicted already. He had Auto Traders and Mustang Traders on his desk at work and I was flipping through trying to find a project car

Thanks for all the help and support, you guys are gonna get me in trouble

Alright Shannon, quick question? Who is "he?" You keep referring to him, but we don't know who that is, boyfriend, father, husband, lover. Just curious, b/c I couldn't figure out who was driving.

Cool, now it's time to let everyone know how fast your husband was driving the 05 at the track, so we can give some pointers, b/c you know that the members of this website are the best drivers out there....LOL

Well, he took the time slips and put them on his bulliten board in his office. He got it down to 9 something, 1/8 mile track, the 1/4 track is only open to street cars about once a month or so. Like I stated earlier he seemed to be lugging in 1st and forgot to decrease tire pressure. By the time he got the hang of it the track closed. What is the difference between the track and the street? He said he knew the car could do better.

Please, give all the pointers you can because I certainly WON'T be passing them on, I'm going to keep them all to myself for my first pass
