Going from Off-road pipe to Catted pipe!

I'm excited! Dropping the convertible off at Wicked Motorsports/Sansone Ford this weekend to have the off-road H pipe replaced with a catted JBA H pipe. Also having the car retuned on the dyno and entire exhaust tightened so it doesn't bang and clunk down the road like an old busted Dodge K car

Anyone else make this switch? How much quieter will the exhaust be? I'm looking forward to not smelling fuel at traffic lights anymore! Even though I'm essentially redoing a mod, I'm still pysched about getting my car back to tip-top running shape

It depends how much material is in the cat you are using. Less cells per square inch gives a better flow (louder). When I had stock headers and offroad prochamber I wanted to tone it down a bit and clean up the sound so I bought the the eastern cats which have 200 cells per square inch I believe. It was the perfect tone IMO, right in between stock cats and offroad.

If I were you I would just buy the cats seperate and have them welded in vs buying a whole new h-pipe.

Oops I already bought the pipe! I didn't think about buying the cats separately (where were you at the exact moment I needed you? ).

I just thought I'd be safe buying the JBA pipe to bolt up to the JBA headers. Had some issues with getting this setup right, so I'm gun shy.

Like Sonicboost (Adam) I also had hi-flow cats welded into my prochamber. Only difference is that I bought magnflow cats. It improved the sound big time.

It's not going to be 10 hp. Not to mention that the power (I've also seen people get slightly MORE power in the low end from the increased back pressure with catted setups - I have 3.55s so I want more torque) difference is totally negligible compared to the PITA of having to swap every time I need emissions. Plus as it runs now, the smell and sound of the exhaust detracts from the fun of having a convertible.

They are high-flow, of course.

You won't feel any power difference for 90% of your driving. It would only be at 5000/5500 rpm and above that you will notice any difference. You may even pick up a little low end torque in doing so. As a Vert driver that has been running offroad longtubes for over 2 1/2 year I know what you are talking about the smell. Even the gals in the drive thru complain if I spend to much time there at idle. Maybe Colby needs to stick his nose up his own pipe maybe!

Haha! well, that's what I was thinking...that I will not really feel the difference plus the car will be less stinky! Just hope it has the same type of tone - we'll see in a few days!

I didn't loose any hp nor tq going from O/R to hi-flow cats. With an o/r prochamber I dynoed 302 RWHP/305RWTQ. When I added hi-flows I dynoed 308 RWHP/311 RWTQ. This was on the same dyno but about 2 weeks apart. There was no significant difference in temps between the two days.
