Ok, so I called my dealer. FRPP 4.10's $850.00 CDN ($680.00 US) installed, all parts and labor (taxes extra). The gears only are $297.00 CDN ($237.00 US).

Motive 4.10's with install kit from MustangTuning.com: $210.00 CDN ($169.00 US); installation quote at Bert's: ~$295.00 ($236.00 US); additional charges? ~$40.00 ($32.00) = $550.00 ($440.00 US)

Would you pay an extra $300.00 ($240 US) for dealer installed and warrantied FRPP's versus Motive's installed at a reputable transmission shop?

Ford gears period. I'm not sure who makes them for Ford, but they have always given me the best luck.

Thanks Mike

Most reputable shops that have experience in gear swaps are fine for that type of install. A small hotrod shop at home here in OH swapped out the gears in my 95 GT vert. I used Ford Racing 3.73 gears, rebuild kit, lube, oil and install was around 400 US.

Good luck

Sam

[/quote]Thanks Sam. Did the $400 include the cost of the gears?

I am getting 4.10s installed as I write this. $170 for the gears (Ford racing) and $200 for the install.

Do 4.10s void any part of the warranty?

Where did you get FRPP's for $170?

Thanks. I see shipping is $16 so they're only $4 less than Mustang Tuning.
Now if I could convince my dealer that $490 for installation is highway robbery...

Did your dealer install them or someone else?

I called another Ford dealer and was told 6.5 hours minimum, maybe as much as 8.5 - 10.5 hours.

6.5 * 95/hr = 617.50 (that's about 495.00 in US dollars...just labor!)

O U C H ! ! !

I'm seriously thinking about getting the Motive brand and giving the job to Bert's...

I got some quotes locally from some Mustang shops and can tell you that your quote from Berts is very reasonable. Most shops around here wanted 299 for the install.

$300 is pretty standard for an install. Anything more is a rip off. I paid only 200 but it was special price because of the mustang club I am in.

I wanted to stick with the Ford dealer but I don't think I can afford to...
