Gear Upgrade

Just did my gears and was wondering what grade and brand gear oil everyone was using I put in Mobil 1 synthetic 75/90 of course with some friction modifier which is about half the price of the synthetic 75/140 specified in the manual
any thoughts?

I just went with synthetic. I had my 3.73's done about two weeks ago. No problems. What are your thoughts on the gears??????

I just don't understand gears. I hear a lot about 4.10's and all that but what if you have an automatic car?

I used 75/140 Amsoil with friction modifier. Don't cut corners when it comes to lubricants, personal or otherwise!

Mustang Kid,

I think gears will even help out a automatic. Ford upgraded the stock gearing for the Hertz to put in 3.55's instead of the stock ones. I am guessing that a new torque converter and gears would do wonders to your auto.

I'd be using Ford recommended synthetic 75/140 if I was living in Texas simply because of the extreme heat there.

lesson learned, I could hear the diff slipping as I drove around corners after the rear end got warm mabey 10 or 15 miles of driving. after I would let it sit long enough it would stop until it warmed back up.
Draining it now and going to go with Royal Purple 75/140. anyone else have to look around to find some gear oil it seems almost everyone was out of the 75/140 or only had one or two quarts

I have an automatic and the 3.73's made a very noticable difference. I can't imagine what 4.10's would feel like.

But won't that degrade the latex?
