Hey Cdvision, I'm a believer. The FRPP kit would be a good package for my purposes. I'm not a racer, so I don't care about 1/4 mile times. An easy, almost bolt-on, increase of that much horsepower with a conservative tune would work for me. I intend to keep the GT for quite a while, so I'm not going to trash it.
OK, I'm human and I may smoke the tires on occaision, but I think I can keep disciplined. Especially because I am surrounded by city police and county sheriffs (one lives just down the block from me and although I know him, it doesn't help when I'm on the highway) and the Washington State Patrol (who are using airplanes these days).
All I need is cash. I might be able to get my hands on some later in the year.

Is the numbers posted before heak soak sets in or after? The blower probably maked close to 400 horse for the first 1/4 mile pass when it's cold then as it gets closer to operating temp you begin to see the effects of what not having a intercooler will do and the hp is dropping.
All in all a good mod with massive room to grow. Did anyone read the latest article in MM and FF about the cam swap in an S197 and it's gains (they seemed to be a little inflated)? After I read that articele and saw all the work those cams were to put in along with the cost of all the parts and labor I thought a non intercooled whipple was a way easier way to get there and not much more expensive (if you count labor for cam install).
I like the non intercooled whipple and if I went that route I would deffinetly have a custom dyno tune . I have a manual and if I could get 350 horse to the ground after heat soak I would be happy.
Nice car CDvision!!

JLT CAI with SCT XCAL II tuner $650
CMCV deletes $140
Cams: $850
UDP: $200
Total ~$2300
That's still quite a bit less than a supercharger (assuming labor cost for installation is about the same for each).

Add in the labor. I'd do a supercharger install but not cams... And go ahead and add in custom ported heads too, and an off-road X, still less horsepower....Going for N/A hp if you really want to go fast is a waste of time for an engine that is suffering from small displacement syndrome more then its design. Even the megabuck 'cammer' crate engine has trouble holding its own against the most basic supercharger.

wow, you'd do heads and cams in the driveway? And to really work N/A mods you REALLY have to get all the parts that work together perfectly. Still short on HP...
And I get the non i/c for 4300 with no shipping(dealer cost is 3999)

Most can handle a non-IC installation themselves, its essentially installing one big part Funny thing is, after adding all those N/A parts, the next most likely question is "will all this stuff work with a supercharger?"

Oh, I know, its just that when you get so intense doing all that work and it's not making it a whole new car, you go back to looking for a supercharger for some real 'satisfaction'. With the non i/c whipple you get some serious instant gratification without a lot of scraped knuckles, and next year you can always go back for the upgrade kit. In the long run, it just works better for these cars. I think I'm skipping the whole CAI/CMDP/gears/UDP's thing and just getting the whipple after a few miles. Add some GT500 LCA's, a new UCA, and let 'er eat.

A lot of people put 4.10's in the car to give it some get-up with a tune, then supercharge it later. times with 3:55's are not easy to come by. With the old car, it was common practice after adding a supercharger to go back to taller gears. The 3:55's are virtually identical to the SN's 3:27's with the larger tire package. I wonder if an identically modded car is faster with shorter gears and FI. I think other then at the 60' mark, it starts to loose its effectiveness down the strip.

FYI, saw this add in the July MM&FFs. Non-intercooled Whipple for $4493
http://www.lethalperformance.com/pag...kit-black.html
Intercooled one is $5776
http://www.lethalperformance.com/pag...kit-black.html
That works out to ~$50 for every HP gained via the non-intercooled and ~$30/HP gain for the intercooled.
Just a few comparisons. Magnacharger with a ~125 HP gain for $5195 is $42/HP gain http://www.steeda.com/products/steed...arger_s197.php
CAI with custom tune ~25hp gain for $650 = $26/HP gain.
