FRPP Super Pack

Just when I thought I was through with mods for my GT, I open up the July issue of MM&FF and see the writeup of the FRPP Super Pack. Everything you need in a box, and it'll run with my auto.

Looks like a neat way to get to 400 HP. I don't know why I am looking at this stuff because I had convinced myself that I wasn't going for anything beyond my bolt-ons. The car runs really well, it respectably fast (fast enough for me) and still gets good gas mileage on 87 octane. Why mess with success.

The blower would need premium fuel. That's not great. It costs a ton ($4900), which is about ten times what I have in my bank account. And, I don't think I can install it, so that might cost me another grand.

But, if I had the money laying around doing nothing (that's a laugh )would I order it in a minute?...yea, I guess I would.

Claude, let us know how the thing works out for you. Your experience may help convince me to jump into the debt pool.
By the way, mine's Satin Silver also. I'm just a "little" southwest of you here in the desert of eastern Washington.

They started the teardown on Friday. I'm off work Monday and Tuesday and the tech says it should be done Monday afternoon(mine is the 6th one he's done). They said it was ok for me to come down and take pictures. So I'll probably hang around the shop Monday. I just need to sleep now, way to excited!!!

Yes on both counts. The magazine review and for my car. But magazine car is a auto and mine is a stick. Should be fun.

I just read the mag. The 500HP IC is not available for autos, only 5spd. The 400HP none-IC is available for both. Nice write-up and spiked my interest as well.

I think I may just go that way, safe and simple without need new fuel pumps and new clutch. I'd be happy in the 12's. I wonder what the deal is with that low trap speed, I bet it would be faster with 3:55's in a manual. I'd do some LCAs for a little more bite and an aluminum driveshaft to lighten the load.

I like the MM&FF stock times they got with the auto, 13.5's, why C&D can't seem to handle driving mustangs is a mystery.

One question about this setup. Would there be any problem with an underdrive pulley? I have the Steeda pulley on my car at the moment, but it didn't need a belt change. Just wondering if it could cause any problems.

Your gonna have to put the stock pulleys back on to run the whipple or any supercharger as a matter of fact, Most the kits come complete pulleys, belts, bolts, blower, etc...

It caused me some dilema when I read it. I have JLT and bama, UD pulleys and SLP headers. I will have it dyno'd soon and hope to have over 300 rwhp and maybe close to 365fwhp.

If I put 5k in a sc, I will lose the UD's and JLT and tune. I will only gain 40 more hp or 10% increase. Other than looking cool, that is really it.

I would rather go back to thinking of the stage 4 cams and get 20-25 rwhp gain. That would put me at 400fwhp. for less than 1/2 the price.

Well those numbers are with an extraordinarily safe tune from FRPP. And if you get bored in a few years, you can just up with an intercooler, or go big boost with a built block. Its not even breathing hard to get to 400 as it comes out of the box. I'm debating now if I want to go the N/A path to get to 340'ish hp(fw) or just 'safe' supercharge it to 400-420ish(fw), before I get pulleys, CMCV plates, tune, cai, ect that would all be unusable with a blower. I also wouldn't change gears and skip LT's if I was going SC. You have to add up all the stuff doing N/A versus bolting the power pack on a stock car.

Yea, I agree. One does need to decide early on which route to go.

Yes, but a twin screw will plant you in your seat starting at 2-3000rpm, stage 4 cams are going to get there max potential till 5-6000 rpm's.

Sorry for the newb question. Im new to the idea of forced induction. Lets say I decided on the non-intercooled set up. With a very safe tune pushing 400 hp. Does this mean in 2yrs I could add an intercooled system to then boost me power to... 500hp+?

Someone please care to explain the principle behind the "safe" tune of the non-intercooled. So If I wanted I could deff push more boost and run higher HP at unsafe levels(due to the lack of an intercooler?). Sorry, if I sound repetative. I've been giving this forced induction alot of thought lately. How are people with s/c holding up right now? Engine wear wise. I know I could be boosted and drive it responsibly and have it last as long as a stock n/a motor. So whats the 411 on the different between intercooled and non-intercooled.

ALOT of questions I know...
