Ya right the s197 design is great thats why we wont get a break on prices. And as for the heads after you bought a pair of take off head had them ported and got springs you would pribaly be somewhere close to what it would cost to buy a set of heads already ported.

I doubt that...considering you can buy an entire 3V4.6 out of a recked stang for 2000...im sure you can find someone online looking to make a drug deal on some heads...

I am still debating whether or not to piece together a top end kit or just buy the frpp one. Downside, like most people, is that i already have a cai and tb...and if i buy the frpp manifold and cams ill still spend a chunk...

To be honest u save money buying the top end kit unless u get the cams from cjponyparts during a sale week with a 5% discount ... either way its a lot of money all I have left is the heads but im sacraficing looks and just getting a decent chin spoiler... im also trying to get the 110mm jlt kit with a single blade to go with that top end... I want to see if it can produce more power but again that's a lot of money too .....

Just do your home work price everything and try to get a deal and compair it to that kit.. remember though they reduce the price without having the valve covers included

Here's my list from JPC, which I am ordering in the next week or so:

ITEMS QTY PRICE TOTAL

JPC Racing 3V CAST Intake Manifold
Extra Coating Option: Standard As Cast $795.95 $795.95

Ford Racing Billet Throttle Body 2005-09 Mustang GT $549.00 $549.00

COMP Thumpr Camshafts
CHOOSE STAGE: 127020 ***** Thumpr $649.10 $649.10

Comp 3 Valve Cam Phaser Limiter Kit $199.99 $199.99

Subtotal $2,194.04
TOTAL $2,194.04

No heads, no LTs, but I like the manifold much better than the FRPP one because it's cast and not plastic, and BONUS! I can have it powder coated to match my extra set of cam covers. I thought about adding LT's at this time, but I already have a catted x and cat-back, and I am gonna do a little more reserch before I lunch the existing x-pipe (it's made for stock manifolds...).

If you just wanted to add the intake manifold would you have to have the car retuned

THAT's the other thing I've gotta find: A dyno tuner somewhere on the front range to get all that stuff to work right....any suggestions from the locals???

Well his avatar indicates he's down in Littleton, so facing the same problem I am -- no one in Denver to go to for tunes, at least no one well known.

There's MAC autosports in Parker, supports the local NASA group here and does dyno days (first track day tomorrow @ High Plains Raceway in Byers!!), but not sure if they do SCT stuff (not on their webpage, at least).

I figure when I get my FRPP throttle body and manifold later this year, am going for a canned email tune from Brenspeed, or possibly Tillman.

I wouldn't mind downloading one on the ol' diablosport, but I'd really like to get some before and after numbers from the dyno, and it'd be nice to have someone really put together the tune for MY car, not just A car with these mods....but then, I don't really know how much difference that will make. The alternative, I guess, is to get a "canned tune" until I can get to someplace to dyno the car.......

Check the dyno websites....
http://www.dynojet.com/
http://www.mustangdyne.com/

That's how I found my tuner (http://www.troyerperformance.com/), he specializes in trucks and SUVs, but had no problems dyno tuning the Mustang.

What software did he use? I'm on SCT, Diablo's the other popular Mustang one, and I'm wondering how good the regular dyno shops would be with them if it's not something they do every day.

I don't think you'll be able to use my tuner's dyno, unless you want to drive cross country... he's in VA. He does SCT tuning, and does mail order tunes for F-150s and other trucks. It wasn't that big of a stretch for him to tune the Mustang.

My point was that you need a starting point... I'm just trying to give you some ideas to help you get started.

I wasn't figuring you were anywhere nearby, just wondering if the guy you went to was already familiar with SCT.

So, based on that, just looked at SCT, and they have this listed:

Rely on Stang Auto Tech Inc. in Broomfield, CO 80020 to provide expert tuning for your vehicle. Stop by our shop to see how we can help you or call 303-404-3813 for more information.

To keep your vehicle running at peak performance, we provide tuning services that include:

Performance Tuning
Dyno Tuning
Dynamometer Tuning
SCT Tuning
SCT Tuner
Computer Tuning

Might just give them a call, they have a Mustang Dynamometer (not sure why they're called Stang, they don't have Ford's or the dynamometer Mustang listed on their website otherwise, but it is a rather crappy site).

He had them done at a local machine shop in chicago. Im not sure which shop he used but we got the motor back in last saturday and other than a little bit of adjusting that he will need to his tune his motor seems really strong.
