Looking down the road to buy the heads and wonder if anyone seen a big increase in power and is it worth the money?

Fordracingpartsdirect.com has them for 900 and change for each side but does anyone else have them cheaper?

Already have a gt500tb the frpp intake manifold and cai with steeds upd's and shorties

Did you install your cams yourself? I'm thinking of trying to do that at some point.
Curious about the heads as well, though.

I hear ya, have a garage full of stuff to do, waiting to do the underdrive pulleys til I get time to replace the radiator, etc. Have the stuff, not the time...

Heads and cams are a big job, though, you gonna tackle it yourself? I did see a few write ups the other day:

I'm curious about this myself, as ford racing has ported heads, hot rod cams, FRPP intake, 62mm TB, valve covers, gaskets, etc. for $3800. This is the claim from FordRacingDirect's website:
Ford Racing has tested a 4.6L motor with this top end power package, their 85MM cold air intake, and long tube headers. The result was an EASY 425 HP at 6300 RPM and 380 Ft-lbs Torque at 4600 RPM with proper calibration. Proper custom calibration is important. Power continued to build to over 440 HP as the engine reached 7000 RPM. The engine also made over 275 Ft-lbs Torque from 2400 RPM and steadily increased to 375 Ft-lbs Torque at 4,600-6,000 RPM. These numbers are SAE corrected number as measured on an engine dyno at the flywheel. Expect to see about 12-15% less at the rear wheels with proper calibration.

If anyone has this combo, I'd be interested........

Can you save a lot sending your own heads out to be ported?

My friend sent his out to be ported. Cost him $385 to do both heads. Had them back in about a week. He just sent the block out to be bored too

I was thinking about buying a cheap pair of heads that were take offs and having them ported but I don't know the cost and I would want a real expert to do them it would always seem easier to just buy them from ford racing... you would think with all the new mustangs coming out that they would give the s197 owners a break on prices
