went to speedworld last night to do a few baseline runs and practise my starts(which stink badly). It was really crowded and I only got 2 runs in which I screwed up both from first time with a new car jitters.I also stink with a stick.Car was run without any cooldowns and running in the staging lanes,no air let out of rear tires either.
First run was a 14.569 @ 94.82, R/T .734 ,60' 2.248,1/8 9.424. slight bog off line and I shifted to 4th WAY before I should have (thought I was in a street race-LOL)which explains the mph.
second run bogged again and hit rev limiter in 2nd which screwed everything up.The rev limiter is WAY to close to the redline for comfort(just past 6000rpm.
14.605@97.90mph,R/T 1.028,60' 2.292.
This car has got a LOT more in it,I just have to get my self together.I raced a guy with an identical GT in the last run.He had a steeda CAI and steeda programmed SCT tune.He was a bit off all night(first time )but ran a 13.763 on that last run.@103.55 ,R/T .965,60' .233.You just know his car is capable of more.I can't wait to go again, this is fun.And safer than street racing. On the way home, some track squids wanted to run ,but after all the track fun I was able to resist. ZRX4ME,
Good show As I also found out, first time jitters can screw-up any car You will be more relaxed the next time out and your times will show it. Be sure and keep us updated on your progress.

the bad thing is that it was so crowded that I could not make consecutive runs with my mistakes fresh in my head.

as a side note there was a 2004 GTO there with a auto and he could not get out of the 15's.I was amazed at that.I asked him if he powerbraked and he said yes.He apparently has been to the strip before also.Go figure.Driver makes up so much of a cars times.

Actually I have heard that it's best to shift at 5500, so you shouldn't be hitting the rev limiter.

the best way that i've found is to slip the clutch hard off the line and to shift about 5300, and go into fourth at the end of the track
-should pick up the time some, b/c i started off shifting about 6,000 also and was running 14.0's and 14.1's, now i've ran 13.60 w/ no modifications.

The best time I got out of my first runs was 13.9 see attached topic. Went back past Sun and it was really cold and the wind was terrible. Only difference was the weather, steeda lower control arms, and HC trap removed, no retune yet, and I was able to pull 13.7 So I'm getting better but still have alot of room for improvement. I found that the best launch was at 2000-2300 rpm, and I shift anywhere from 5800-just below red line. I have found out that the rev limiter is horrible to try and recover from when making a run. Also :worship: for not taking the street challenge, hard as it is I have turned down many opportunities to street race it, just not worth it.

Any of you spinning between 1st and 2nd? Tracks are closed around here but I got into it a little bit last night on an empty road and spun going from 1st to 2nd shifting at about 5800.

Of course it might just be the cold pavement.

I can get sideways on the 1-2 with just me in the car and a hard shift at 5500. Scary yes, but exhilarating nonetheless

Yep, spinning between first and second on the latest trip, was a small squel from 2nd to 3rd, but the track was really cold, wind blowing, windchill was somewhere in the teens. The first time I ever had her at the strip it was perfect weather and the run resulted in a squel between 1st and 2nd, but didn't notice it in 3rd.

I'm confused here.... Why would you drive in a streetrace any differently than driving at the track? You want to maximize your car's potiental in any race, so why drive differently? How would that effect the MPH?

ive noticed my clutch has alot more grip at 3200 miles than it did new

it would NOT even think about breaking loose on a shift to third before, now it gets a pretty good bark out of the back tires, regardless of the pavement

cause I shut down early in a street race to avoid high speeds.Stop light to stop light.
