First Trip to the Dyno
#1
All,
I took my '05 automatic GT to the dyno today to have it baselined before I start to mod. The gentlemen at MPS Motorsports in Lynen, WA were just awesome. Helped me out, gave me lots of good advice, and above all didn't make me feel like a dunce as it was my time to a dyno... ever. I haven't had a chance to scan the dyno sheets yet, but I did want to ask about the numbers, because they are well different than I was expecting, given everyone else's results, so here goes. The weather was cool, not cold, and a mild breeze blowing through the shop. No fan was used.
Pull 1:
Max power/torque: 231.0 / 234.8
Pull 2:
Max power/torque: 238.5 / 242.7
Pull 3:
Max power/torque: 238.3 / 243.4
Now, I expected lower numbers than everyone else, since I have an automatic. Are these numbers in line with the amount of drivetrain loss I should sustain? They are SAE corrected.
Also, and this is the part that really concerned me, is the A/F ratio on all three runs was almost identical, at about 14.0:1. This seems awfully high, given everyone else's numbers. They had a little trouble with the A/F monitoring equipment when we set up, could it have been miscalibrated or something?
Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance for your help!

take it back and have them do a pull in 4th gear
4th gear in the 05's is 1:1
they probably didnt know better
i think that is where your problem lies

Well, if that's the case, then my baseline is worthless then?

I talked to MPS today, and they agreed that it might be the cause of the low numbers, but their opinion is that a different gear would only be good for about 5 - 10 horsepower. Opinions?
Anyway, I plan to go up again and get re-dynoed when I put my C&L intake on this weekend. The idea we had was to do the first run with the intake at 3rd gear, so I can see the improvement from last run to this. Then do the next two in 4th gear to get the actual hp/tq. From that, I can then extrapolate my stock hp/tq as it would have been in 4th. The math should be pretty simple. Again, opinions?
Thanks again for everyone's help.
PS: Hotlap, glad I made your day. But I have to wonder, by the way you put that, just how rapidly I'm aging...
