WRONG. Ferrari uses Shell synthetic oil.

 

After 4500 miles, I had my V6 serviced yesterday morning at the dealership. They put Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-20 in the engine. Good thing I get free maintenance, or else I would've paid $63 for it.

 

Ok its time for the second oil change almost, 6500 miles. So what the word, too earlier to go synthtic?, should I go synthic at all?

 

IMO you should be fine going to synthetic at 6500.

 

All I know is that all BMW's run synthetic and they average 15,000 miles between changes. the oil is a bit dark, but still in great shape. That right there sells me on synthetic. By the way, they use Castrol 10W-30, except in the M cars which use 10W-60. Also, synthetics retain their ability to resist brekdown much longer than conventional oils. I run full synthetic, 10W-30, and I change every 5,000 miles.

 

I just did my second oil change @ 12,500 miles with Castrol synthetic after waiting until 5000 miles for my first change with synth. i'm a believer that the engine can go longer between changes with synth.

yup. i drive a lot on the highway and am a believer in synths. i'm going to try to keep the miles to around 4000 on future changes. but with synths you can go longer.

I agree, we newbies need to have this discussion. My Rita just turned 2200 miles and after reading all of your thoughts, I was still confused. I went to the parts store for some oil and a filter. They had a very limited supply of 5w-20. Thinnest Mobil 1 was 10w-30. I went with the Motorcraft Synblend 5w-20.

I did the change and then discovered that I needed 6 qts. It's done now. I put about 1500 a month. I figure to push the synblend oil to 3 mo or 4500 miles and keep all of my receipts.

Ditto - Mobil1 5w20 w/Motorcraft FL820S filter every 5K or 3 months, which ever comes first.

 

I can always go for a good horse burger once in a while!! The engines of old always required valve jobs. The reason appeared to be poor oil flow to the valve train in the heads. Now we have '0' weights or 'winter' rated oils. The lower the first number the better the flow to the heads...the higher the second number the longer the life to the bottom end...crank & rod journals & bearings. Too much of a high second number just wastes gasoline. Choose your multi-vis oil for your particular region. I run 0-30 Mobil1 to get the best of both worlds. When I changed the original Motorcraft 5W-20 syn-blend it poured like water. Not for me. I did notice the oil pressure went up after I changed to Mobil1 @ 1200 miles. I don't know if that was due to the oil or Motorcraft 820S filter. The original filter was a little different than the Motorcraft 820S. Good luck.
