Thanks alot, you gotta bare with me, I had a turbo Jetta before the Mustang and a MR2Turbo before that, so I am new to V8s, but I love it, I really wasted my time with those imported pieces of crap. Doing the research on Bamachips and tuning, that sounds like the way to go. I am going to order a JLT with tuning this week.
your definitely on the right track with Bamachips. I'd say it takes about 3 minutes or so to switch in between programs.. go with straight 93 tunes if your state has 93 octane.. 93 race, 93 perf, 93 tq. trust me, you're never gonna go back to 87 anyway. the 1 thing i do recommend tho, is always watch when your getting ur tank filled.. here in jersey, as you all know, we don't pump our own gas and i guess b/c hardly any of them speak english you have to tell them twice, and theyll still almost put in regular.. lol.. so be careful if necessary!
EDIT: nevermind, you pump your own in Virginia

93 is expensive! I'll probably go with two 87 tunes and one 89 tune.

Well you live in California so I'm not sure where you are buying 93 octane?
Get one 87 tune and two 91 tunes. If you want the best performance from your car (you did buy a performance car) don't cheap out on 87 octane and get the most bang for your buck with the 91 tunes. JMO~

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure 87 is recommended by ford because that is how the engine is tuned from the factory. Higher octane fuels are cleaner burning (for the most part). Also, higher octane fuels can be compressed more in the piston, and with the higher compression, there is a bigger *bang* when ignited (for lack of a better word). This results in that much more force and better performance from your engine. If you get the tune, then your engine will know the proper compression and such, so the 91 (or 93 in my case here in RI) is better.

trust me, if your spending the money to mod your car, go the extra mile and go for 91 if thats what cali's top octane is

no, cuz you don't have a Race Tune on there plus i think the majority of people prefer the torque tune for daily driving. thats what i'm currently using. if i were you, and i'm not far outta college (im only 25 so i understand money being tight) i'd go with 87 torque, 91 torque, 91 race. just my .02

I'm in college too and I am not rich by any means but I had to get Doug's 93 octane race/perf./torq tunes with a JLT CAI. It made a night and day difference to the car. The gas is a little more expensive but only 20 cents a gallon over 87. That's only an extra 3 or 4 bucks per tank. That's not too bad for all the extra performance you get. Don't know how much gas is in California, but I'd at least get two 91 tunes (performance and torq) and then an 87 tune to run when you're trying to save on gas money.
