First the Hurst Comp+ Shifter, now the Pistol Grip Handle
I just installed a Hurst universal pistol grip shifter handle onto my Competition Plus shifter yesterday and I am very happy with this combination so far.
The pistol grip handle is model number 153-1000 and my shifter is model 391-0200. (391-0200 is designed to use the factory handle as opposed to the chrome handle and round **** used with 391-0201.)
At one point I had considered starting this thread in the Interior Mods section because the look was so drastically different than the stock handle. But after installing and using it I soon realized that it actually worked better than it looked, and I really like the way it looks.
I believe that it works well for several reasons. The grip itself is very comfortable in my hand, although it might not be for someone with very large hands. The increased height over the stock shifter handle gives an increase in leverage, some of which was lost with the Comp Plus shifter. And finally, the pistol grip offers very much improved feel and accuracy. Lateral movement is the most noticeable improvement. Third gear was never so easy.
The only downside is that the handle does not come with anything to keep the boot in place. I fabricated something out of a few different size washers to mimic the collar on the stock shifter and I am happy with the result.

Hahaha! It looks like one of those "drive by wire" joysticks that replace the steering wheel.
Don't get me wrong, I am **NOT** putting you or your shifter down. You did a great job on the install. I did a double take looking at the pic though, it's a departure from a traditional shifter.
Just not my cup of tea I guess...

Wicked! I have the Hurst with traditional white 5-speed ball. The stick does give the car a fighter-pilot type ambiance. Any idea when your heads up display gets installed?

Guess I better buy a front end bra.

Hey I think it looks good. Just for some info you might like.... UPR offers a pistol-grip that has a small allen head screw to hold it in place that isn't quite as big as the Hurst you have pictured. I have used both pistol grips mentioned on some old fox 5.0's and liked the UPR just a little better just because it was better fitted to me.
