Finally went mid mount mufflers

Been searching for the old school mustang exhaust sound for a while and went through a couple axle back kits and never got the sound I wanted. So I bit the bullet and went full custom. Ive got a local muffler shop that I deal with who set me up with a custom x-pipe and he reused my SSS adrenaline mufflers from the axle back kit and 4" slash cut tips. Loving the sound and the install was really easy! if your thinking of going this route do it. I get questions everywhere if its been engine swapped. Best money hands down I should have started here. Hoping to get some videos and pictures up soon. I know this question has been asked a million times so I thought I would post this up as a kind of question and answer type of thing in case anyone wants more info on how to go about it.

Nice! So basically you just had them reinstall your same mufflers, just in the middle of the car, correct? I have been telling every S197 owner I can to do this. I'm running the Solo Performance catback on my 2014 - it was the only mid muffler setup available for these cars and it makes my car sound so much closer to my 03 GT. Per Shaun at AED, mid mufflers also flow better than having them at the back of the exhaust.

Yeah they just cut up my axle back kit to make it work. I agree it feels stronger and being that nothing really changed except the location of the mufflers and the addition of the x-pipe I'd say it makes a big difference. I like the tone of the drone better to. It's enough you can hear it and it sounds good but doesn't give you a headache.

Do the mufflers hang down a bit now? I mean, it doesn't look like there's a ton of space available under the cabin for mufflers to sit.

If so, how vulnerable are they to road debris, steep driveways, etc?

My dad's '68 camaro had mid mount mufflers that hung down low and they scraped every time we went up the driveway...especially with both of is in it.

Really not that low at all. I bumped it once on a speed bump but I was going to fast. They are right in front of the gas tank tucked up tight as possible with the drive shaft. Plus my case diameter is larger than most if I had used the borla stingers I originally wanted to it would be no issue

Heres the pics photo bucket is taking its time with the videos. I have a cold start as well as a warm idle/rev ill upload when its finished converting. What you see is he cut out my pro chamber and left the legs for the x-pipe and mufflers then added the tips out back. I reused most of the pipe since it was in good shape and so i could remove it in case i need to do maintenance. It comes out in three sections so i can remove any one or all sections depending on what i am doing.

Yeah i was surprised after seeing some others most people stick them under the tank which is to low for sure. They test fit a couple places to see what worked best. Im really happy with the way it came out.
