Experiences with Saleen Supercharger

Hi,

looking for experiences with supercharger from Saleen for Mustang GT 2005.

Would like to know what to do and where I have to take care during installation.

Had / Have somebody problems with drivetrain, engine... after installation??

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

The most critical part of the installation in my opinion is the changing of the water crossover tube that runs through the valley of the engine under the intake. You must make sure that you do that part of the install correctly so that you don't have a coolant leak. If the tube does leak or the hose connection that attaches to the tube you will have to remove the supercharger again to fix it. The other tip I have is to make sure you clean the engine and vacuum out all the trash near the intake runners before you remove the intake so garbage doesnt fall into the cylinders. Take your time and make sure you do your torques properly. It took me a full weekend to install mine but I had no problems and the car runs great! If you run into any specific problems let me know and I will give you good advice.

I'm curious about the trip from your garage to the tuner. I have a Diablosport, but if I install an SC I'm sure I'll need to make a trip to get it fine tuned. Can you get some sort of a "coarse" tune to get you by?

I use the tune from Saleen. It seems to be working just fine. I have heard that the regular Saleen tune is a little lean but that is not until you are over 5000 rpm and I don't push the engine that hard. The Saleen upgrade tune that goes with the 39lb injectors is richer. I am going to do the Saleen supercharger upgrade and put in colder spark plugs.

I did a lot of research before purchasing the Saleen S/C.
Being in Montreal, Canada far from any quality tuners was my biggest issue.
I went with the Saleen Stage II setup from JDM Engineering.
If you've read MM&FF you've already heard of JDM.
They have sold in the area of 600 kits without a single engine failure.

I won't go over all the details since it's all in the link
Here

Their mail order tune is spectacular straight out of the box. All you need to do afterwards is go to a local dyno and have the air/fuel ratio checked out and if you have a laptop available to you datalog a few parameters.

I would suggest the GT500 fuel pumps if you're shooting for 10psi or more.

The Saleen is a great blower for those like me that are looking for more power with good drivability and reliability.
The Saleen is good for up to 14-16 psi of boost unlike the Kenne Bell and Whipple which are supposed to be good for 25 psi but there are people still pushing the envelope to see how far it can go.

I am running 11.42 @ 119.92mph in the 1/4 mile on roadrace suspension and a set of M/T ET Streets at 10 psi on the stock motor.
Others are running 12 psi on the stock motor without any trouble.

As far as installation goes I did it myself in 2 evenings plus another evening (3 hours) for the GT500 fuel pump installation.
It can be done with basic hand tools and basic skills in about 10 hours.
A quick search will turn up many installation threads and by doing it yourself you will be more knowledgable and confident if small problems arise.

You are right thump_rrr! I have not heard of anyone who has blown up their engine with a Saleen Supercharger. 10 psi is impressive. The most I am going with is 6 psi. Oden you will have much more power than you really need but it is going to be fun!

Everything I have read (and I've researched quite a bit) leads me to JDM for the Saleen. I'll definitely be using their tune. I'm going to have to wait one more year though since this is going to be an expensive year..... I'm getting married this summer, plus having a pond dug.

With JDM 8 psi is the lowest you can go.
I'm at 10 now and I have the 12 psi pulley on hand.
I will be getting a 14 psi pulley soon for the upcoming motor.

What are they going to build for your motor to handle 14psi and how much will it cost?

Thumbs up

I can only add to what y'all have stated about the Saleen !

I've been looking around for weeks and researching chargers and ended up
getting the Saleen and even though it was a bit more $$ I appreciated the
reliability feedback people wrote.

Soooo, now I've been "Saleen-ed" and LOVE IT .... went with the 475 upgrade kit and this thing is AWESOME
