As some may remember, I blew my 3v on Oct. 30th on my 2nd 1/4 mile pass on 9# of boost. Well, Houston Performance finished my rebuild and delivered the Mustang on Feb. 3rd and I had my first "break in" tune on Feb. 11th.
The goal of the rebuild was a stock alum 3v 05 Mustang block, with a forged bottom end with the following:
- Block Prep .20 over
- Cobra Crank
- Eagle Rods
- JE Pistons - 9:1 w/ valve relief's
- ARP Main Studs
- Fedral Mogul Bearings
- ARP Head Studs
- Full Port and Polish to the Heads
- Manley Springs
- Custom ground cams (mild)
Other Items:
- ProCharger S/C 9# Kit
- 60# Fuel Injectors
- Ford GT Fuel Pump
- Diablow MAF.ia
On drive out, the tune from Houston Performance was very weak, but that was really OK. My tuner, Andre, would take care of future tune. However, Houston Performance is new to the S/C 2005 Mustang and still has a learning curve. The Mechanical work seem tops notch and Steve of Houston Performance is top notch as well.
From Feb. 3rd - Feb. 10th, I drove on 2 tunes 1) from Houston Performance 2) A Mail Tune from my tuner, Andre. However, during that time, it was very FAT and drove actually better than before it blew up.
On Feb. 10th, Andre spent about 2 hours tweaking my FAT tune for a safe A/F and fairly even power curve. The goal was not the get peak rwhp but to make it safe. We will revisit the dyno & tune once I get 1500 miles on the built motor. However, when testing from 4000 - 5500 on the Mustang Dyno, it looks very promising.
First off, at 5500 RPM's it makes 400 rwhp (on the Mustang Dyno). Steve at Houston Performance, designed the heads for 7500 redline with the normal power range to 7000 RPM's. Both I and Andre easily expect 500 rwhp once the break in is over.
Now, I am still making 9# of boost (at 5500 RPM's) with a lower my compression (9:1 vs the stock 9.8:1). With the lower compression, I expected to see a drop in rwhp. I then expected to see more rwhp and rwtq from the heads being ported and polished. The head work and reground cams easily added 40+ rwhp and the torque curve has slightly change. You can easily feel the aggressive power from the stock 3v 9# S/C motor to the built 3v 9# S/C motor.
All in all, I am very happy with the current progress. Houston Performance did a great job, even though most of it was ground breaking for them. The only complaint is a small leak from the rear main seal that will be fixed soon.
Houston Performance gets a A+ from me for the 3v work and a A++ on the head and cam design. I will post the "after break-in" results in the next few weeks. Be expected 500+rwhp

I have been waiting for you to post. Glad to hear you are back on the road again. Those 1500 miles will come pretty quick I am sure.

That's great news Bryan. I can't wait to see some videos and timeslips. We got a foot of snow up here today and Spring still seems like it won't get here soon enough.
