Dyno sessions
I recently e-mailed a local SCT Tuner. I requested a before and after dyno with a tune. Car is bone stock with the HC trap removed. He charges $365 for the xcalibrator, which is about right. The guy wants $400 for the tune.
My questions to all of you is, How much have ya'll been paying for a tune on a dyno? And does $400 for a tune seem a little steep for a tune?
I would appreciate any inputs ya'll may have.

How many pulls or hours does this include? How many tunes will he write?
I'm scheduled to get SCT custom tune to go with my JLT CAI and 4.10's in the next couple of weeks. My guy is pretty steep according to what I'm seeing around the forums. He quoted $325 for the Xcalibrator and then $475 for a half day dyno/tune session where he writes up to three custom tunes on my Xcalibrator. He doesn't start charging until the first pull begins, as it takes a while to get strapped down, hook up to the meters, etc. He will make as many pulls as is necessary or possible in those 4 hours to get the right #'s.
This is my first experience with dynoing and custom tuning and I'm looking forward to it. I don't mind spending the bucks, but I know next to zero about this stuff and I'm a little nervous and really excited all at the same time about the whole deal.

just a quick question kinda on/off subject i was talking to a SCT dealer for the Xcalibrator and i asked him if you get the SCT do you have to have it dynoed? He told me the dyno after the tune was just to see what your car did before and after kinda thing.
Dyno time is usually around $100/hour. So the $475 seems to be about right. If all you have is the HC removed though I don't see why that would take 4 hours to tune. I have had mine on the dyno (I had a few more mods to tune for) and it only took my tuner about 2 hours to do it.
Alright, just wanted to make sure I was getting set up to be riped off.
Only one more problem I not sure what to do, should I
1. Go with a package deal such as the JLT cai, SCT tuner, with a custom tune specifically for the JLT cai offered throuh JLT's website for $575 (does not include dyno) or
2. would I be better off getting a custom tune on a dyno with the cai for $365 (SCT) + $150 (cai)+ dyno time.
Basically I am asking is the tune offered by JLT trustworthy or should I have my car tuned on a dyno?

luckily enough for me I know a guy that has a dyno and he owes me a few favours. We are waiting until April to do the tune on my car since the weather will be a lot nicer and it sure as heck better not snow.
