Dyno Runs: Hydrocarbon Trap
#23
So the data seems to indicate that the HC trap decreases performance - is that correct?
Can anything be harmed by removing the HC trap (except the environment) ?
How do I remove the HC trap.
I need details and pictures if possible - I need the idiot's guide.

I see another HC trap "falling out" here pretty soon. Ford's going to have to issue a TSB on this phenomena (lol)

LordBritish-
Go back and re-read the replies, most of what you ask is covered there.

Take a look at prior threads '2', "Houston, we have a major obstruction". If still a problem, P.M. me.

No emissions testing down here. I think I'll still hang onto the HC trap anyhow.

Darn, I looked this morning and my hydrocarbon trap is defective. It fell out. All I did was give it a little nudge with a pair of pliers and out it came. I won't put it back in since it is obviously an oversite on FORD's behalf. You would think it would be harder for it to fall out like that :P

That is very interesting, as I had Ray at DynoLabs load my XCalibrator with some tunes for my 2005 GT last week. I should receive them tomorrow and have the car on a dyno on Friday. My car, however, is an automatic, so it will be interesting to see what kind of gains I will see. Here is the plan for the day:
1. Dyno the car bone stock down to the paper air filter element and HC trap in place
2. Remove HC trap, install K&N filter and re-dyno
3. Install underdrive pullies, 4.10 gears, reflash CPU with Ray’s 91 octane program and re-dyno
All tests will be performed on a Mustang Dyno. Once I have the results, I will post them for everyone to see.

GarageLogic-
I think I saw your XCalibrator. He showed me a box that was going out for shipment, said it was one of the first he sold via his website. My car was his first shot at the 2005 Mustang.
I hope to tweak it some more and we can trade tweaks.

Well, I have ran into my first glitch. I received my Xcalibrator and tune from Ray yesterday afternoon and reflashed the CPU. Everyhting worked flawlessly with the unit, and the car started up fine with the new calibrations. However, no sooner had I put it in drive and started to pull out of the driveway, two warning lights illuminated. Check Engine icon and Electonic Throttle icons. As soon as that happened, the car went into limp mode.
I pulled over and returned the calbration to stock, which is where it is now. I emailed Ray to let him know and he called me back almost immediately. He has a call into SCT now to see what may have caused my issues, and once that has been determined, he will take car of me. (Great guy, BTW) As far as I know, I am the first person to post an issue regarding an '05 reflash. par for the course it seems.
