Sometime last year I was debating whether to get an 04 SVT Cobra or an 05 GT.

There was a cherry red 04 SVT Cobra at a dealer close to me selling for about the same price as I paid for my 05 GT.

Now I'm not dissapointed in my 05 GT but I would've prefered something with more power (or less weight).

Do some of you have any regrets ?

I'm new to the forum, but I just wanted to say don't regret not getting an 03/04 Cobra. I'm actually trading mine in on a new 06 GT. I'm doing this because of all the problems and issues these cars are having. Here's just a few of them, cylinder head tick, defective paint, TOB, rear suspension clunk to name a few. Not to mention the insane wheel hop you get when trying to launch hard. I've only actually experienced the rear suspension problem and defective paint as my car has low milage (paint on the hood is cracking with only 855 miles and it's garage kept  ). Don't get me wrong, I love the car and it's very fast but I feel like I'm living with a ticking time bomb not knowing what will go wrong next. 03/04 Cobra's are awesome machines and I will always hold a special place in my heart for them. For me, they require a little more maintenance than I would prefer to deal with.

I just traded some friends out of an 03 Cobra into an 05 Roush. They couldn't be happier, and after driving the Cobra home for a day I can see why. The Cobras are FAST  . But the ride is stiff, it's loud, the clutch is a monster, etc. If the car is going to be a toy, you could make a case for the Cobra, but for a driver, the 05 wins hands down...

No regrets whatsoever. Had a choice between the two last fall (and with the discounts on the Cobra, the price difference was negligible). Went with the 05 and have never looked back. The Cobra IS fast, and will go down in history as the pinnacle of fox body ingenuity. The numbers that car turnded in are simply remarkable. That said, for my money, the sacrifices in styling, ride, fit 'n finish, ergonomics, and handling dynamics are nowhere near worth a half second improvment in the quarter....

You know, you can add more power to your GT.

You can also add more power to a Cobra.
The Cobra is also built to take more power - it can be modded to 500 HP.

Things will start breaking in an 05 GT with 500HP - so I heard.

Speed is just a question of money - how fast do you wanna go?

(I am postive you can add to the 05 to make it as sturdy as it needs to be to handle whatever horses you want....)

Well I am just saying, for the money you would save by buying the '05 GT, you can get it to be just as fast as on '04 Cobra.

I traded in my 04 Cobra on my 05 GT so there you go

Power vs. a Better Car / I went with the car because it's alot easier to make power than redo the chassis.

Thanks Mike

Mike - I'm with ya on that one - the '05 chassis is remarkable - compared to any previous Mustang chassis - WORLDS better than my '00GT was!

I was at a dealer that had an 04 Mystic Chrome Vert. They wanted 36K. I considered it but was fearing the insurance and gas costs. Once I got the 05, I felt a lot better on my decision.

While the Cobra is a wildly fast Mustang, I would never have bought it. I stayed away from the Mustang for years because I didn't like the body styles. My last one was a 1988, and frankly I only liked the 87/88 Foxes because they were cheap fast cars, although still crude on a 10 year old chassis.

I prefer the 05 body and interior - although I do wish ford had put a bit more hp into the 05. So I am slowly modding and I'm aiming for 300 rwhp.
