Here's what I would like to be able to do. I want it to function like normal for daily driving; i.e., when the engine is on, I want it to be running. But, when I'm at the track, I want to be able to run it (and the fan of course) with the engine off to help cool down the engine between runs. What I'm not sure of is how I go about doing that, and what I need to install to do it. For example, on RPMOutlet's site, it also shows a relay kit and a toggle switch.
Here are my specific questions:
1. How difficult is the installation of the pump? They say it takes an hour... does it really? Are there any tricks, tips or traps you can mention?
2. Is the purpose of the relay kit to allow you to be able to run the pump with the engine off?
3. And what is the purpose of the toggle switch? Does that allow you to run the pump without the key on? Or does the key still have to be on for it to work?
4. Or does the toggle switch allow you to turn the pump off when the key is on and you don't want the pump running?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

There's a way to do it. I know Blazing Saddles does it on his. He showed me how he ran a wire to one of the leads on the low speed fan relay in the engine fuse box and ran it to a switch and the other side of the switch ran to a ground. Be careful though. There's a resistor that controls the low speed fan which blows pretty easily if you do this a lot.
There might already be a thread on this.

I looked at the other threads (long one!), and didn't see what I was looking for. Maybe I missed it. I'm still not sure what the relay does and whether it will do what I want to do.
I was hoping that someone who used it at the track (ahem.. George, David, et al) could enlighten me.

You use the relay so the pump is on it's own circuit, so you won't overload an existing circuit by tapping into it. I have the pump turn on with the ignition switch. I don't see a need for a separate switch. It only takes a few minutes to cool down with the fan running. I also didn't want to leave the pump on accidentally and kill my battery.

Good point on the battery drain, George.
Does the fan come on when the key is on, or did you do something special for that?

I'd just like to add to this post that I am selling a brand new (still in box and never used) Meziere electric water pump (+ 11-15 RWHP) for $275 shipped. This pump will cost you $320 shipped if you buy it yourself. It doesn't come with the relay kit or the toggle switch. It comes with the wiring to hardwire it to the alternator so that it will function when you start the engine. If you need the realy and the switch, you can order these seperate from rpmoutlet and still save yourself about fifty bucks. Here's the link to my thread in the for sale section. Just PM me if interested.
