Do 3.73's actually make 1st gear useless?

Right now I have 3.31's in my '07 GT, but I'm considering going with 3.73's. I've read a lot about how it almost makes first gear useless. How true is that and how much do you really have to change your driving style? Also, for people that have tried both, do the 3.73's make the car feel easier or more difficult to drive? If that part makes sense, haha.

I have 3.31s right now and I'll be going to 4.10s. I had 3.55s before and they were 'alright'. Most I know that ran 3.73s wish they had of ran 4.10s instead, fwiw.

I drove a 13 5.0 with 3.73's and 1st gear was not useless at all. My 06 is a manual with 4.10's and I love them. First gear is still fine, just don't be afraid to rev it.

Thanks for the responses guys. One other question, on the American Muscle website, there are options to also buy a $90 installation and bearing kit or just an installation kit for $35 along with the 3.73's. Are either of these items needed if I'm just going to have the gears installed at a shop? My car has about 55,000 miles on it if that makes any difference.

Get the $90 kit. It has everything you need including new pinion bearings, crush collar, pinion nut and shims. Same kit I bought when I did my 4:10's. Just a little extra insurance.

I went from 3.55 to 3.73 and felt hardly no difference at all.

If you have a automatic 410s would be best for you I think

That's ridiculous. 3.73's are perfect with the 5 spd.

Yeah, I think I was mainly hearing that from owners of the newer 6 speed Mustangs. I ordered the 3.73's and an SCT tuner from American Muscle a couple days ago. Can't wait to feel the difference!

I have 3.73 gears and I find myself increasingly taking off in second gear, so yeah, I'd say first is pretty much useless in normal driving. It's a 2012 gt with a six speed so other people's experience with a five speed may be different.
