Well even though the zex isnt working right I still decided to go to the track tonight since I finally had the 4.10's put in. Car felt good but first passed only netted a 13.2 @ 102. I was like ok maybe its really humid or something. Second pass same thing. Third pass I let my mechanic (also my friend) drive and during the burnout all I see if smoke coming from the cowl area-It looked like a FWD burnout. I guess he didnt know and made the pass anyways and was actually doing pretty well until the clutch wouldnt release at all and didnt go into 4th. The WHOLE grandstands stunk of burnt clutch-needless to say the drive home was interesting- Ran about 5 red lights since I couldnt stop bc the clutch wont disengage at all but its home safe now. Luckily I ordered a Spec stg 3+ 2 days ago and it will be here 2morrow-hows that for timing? Stock clutch doesnt like 4.10's, et streets, and side stepping burnouts too much. -Jan

Yet another reason why I picked the 5 speed automatic, I knew I would have smoked the clutch before long.

Good luck on the clutch install.

thanks-yea the auto is definately preferred for racing but the stocker has its weak points as well-such as the converter troubles you were having. Hopefully this will be the only clutch install I do for awhile-its supposed to hold over 600 lb ft. If I could make that much power the tranny would cry before it blew.

I feel your pain. I did the sa,e thing, then had to wait a month for another one to come to the dealership. I couldn't really b*tch b/c it was my fault.

Speed- Did you get the stg 3 or stg 3+? Onlt reason being is I went with the 3+ bc it has the same holding power but is a full face disc instead of puck and is supposed to have better street manners. I had a stg 3 in my ranger and it didnt bother me on the sreet at all. Did you get the aluminum flywheel and if so do you notice the revs coming any faster or dropping slower? -Jan

Just the Stg 3 and yes I got the aluminum flywheel; i think I'm noticing faster revs and slower drop off. It isnt a world of difference.. but it is there.

well arent you special But seriously how are you extending the life of your clutch that long? I pulled the tranny today and the clutch material had literally fallen off the disc-I will take pictures and post them. Supposedly that powerhouse single turbo car made those 10 sec passes on the stock clutch too. My car is only 5 months old and the clutch was replaced when the dealership replaced the tranny about 6 weeks ago. It just really didnt like what I was doing to it at the track. Got the Spec in today and it looks pretty stout but we will see.

BTW- I am leaving at about 5000 rpms on et streets and pulled a 1.7 60 ft on one of the passes the other night-how hard are you hitting your clutch at the track Mike?

that last part... side stepping burnouts might be a problem. Are you sliding your foot off the side of the clutch pedal or lifting your foot real fast?
