I already have the K&N and I'm running the Predator 91 tune, and it feels great. However I'm concerned I'm losing power over the tunes designed specifically for the other intakes. Is the only option now for us K&N/Predator guys to get a custom tune? I think that would be a serious pain in the butt =(

I've personally been considering driving to MRT to have them custom tune my car. They aren't the closest dealer to me, but they're someone I would trust with tuning the 05. At about $150 for a custom dyno tune it's about right where I would be if I sold the Predator and got an Xcal2.

But once the tune is done, it's in your predator for good and unless you plan to heavily modify your car you won't have to worry about going in for a new tune every other month or what have you. If you do mod past an intake whether your have a C&L, K&N, or whatever, you're going to want a custom tune anyway.

it only adds support for the v6, there are no new options or functions otherwise.

One thing is for sure - r22 does not support V6s - r23 does. Beyond that I'm not real sure what has changed. Guess V6 owners are excited.

Finally direct from Nick at Diablosport:

DiabloSport has released the Predator flash programmer for 2006 Mustang GT.

The 2006 Mustang GT, and 2005 Mustang V6, calibrations have been added to firmware update R23, now any #U7140 DiabloSport Predator has 2006 Mustang GT, and 2005 V6 capability with the addition of the free firmware download.

I have upgraded my Predator to r23 and installed a new Custom Tune - very minor changes from my previous Custom Tune. Haven't really noticed any good or bad results.

One item worth mentioning, Scott at DiabloSport is the only one to create a tune for my vehicle. I am very cautious when it comes to tuning. Something like "too many cooks spoil the broth". I don't even make minor changes without consulting him first. I wonder how many tuners/end users are modifying parameters because someone told them this will give them the results they are looking for and really have no knowledge of how to create the desired results - just guessing. Perhaps that is why a good dealer in your area is so important to the success of the product.

Don I am sorry to hear you are switching from the Predator to the SCT-2. Nothing against the SCT product - I don't have any real experience with the tuner. I am very fortunate to be close to DiabloSport and have always dealt directly with them - no dealer to be disgruntled with. Their staff and product support have been excellent to deal with even when things weren't going well with the initial release of the r6 software and original version of DS Downloader. All that aside I hope all goes well with your decision.

I really like the Predator... it works very well for me. But, I would have to switch sooner or later anyway, because I understand the Saleen SC uses the SCT... and it's a bummer too. I have been trading PMs with Doug at Bamachips, and from what I hear, the X-2 is not as user-friendly and flexible as the Predator (yet, anyway). I don't like settling for less... but what are ya gonna do?

I have often wondered if the flexability of the Predator is also some user's/tuner's downfall - it is very easy to change parameters with the Predator and some users do not fully understand the affects those changes will have. That is another reason I don't make changes without consulting my tuner first.

Although specific to an auto trans car, one example I learned was that with the Predator I can set my WOT shift points to a specific RPM (say 6200rpm). On the X-2, you can not do it that way. You can only adjust the shift points by "mph" not rpm (-3mph to +7mph). Kinda lame... but maybe that feature will change in the future.

Additional information on r23 from Nick at DiabloSport:

FYI: Firmware update R22 was released to add new CALID as well.

Ford releases new CALID updates on a regular basis, for many reasons, mostly emissions related, but it can vary. We review these updates and make new calibrations when needed.

We also use firmware updates to add new Predator features and applications. We do this for free, and feel it is an important part of what makes our product unique and desirable.

Others will copy DiabloSport, of course they strive to be just like us
