Are you saying your computer doesn't have a serial port? If so you need to buy a USB to serial cable.

yeah I think he has the same problem I had.
the predator has a female port and my new computer has the male port totally backwards to what I was expecting when I ordered the predator.... So you have to buy the usb /serial port cable.... Usb on one end for the computer an the serial port- male connector on the other end to plug into the predator.

That's the problem with new computers. There's still a lot of serial port gear out there and they've pretty much stopped including serial ports as standard equipment. A USB-Serial adapter works, and you can also get add-on cards that give you serial ports as well. Usually about the same price. Let us know how it works!

Since the PC serial cable is basically a male to female extension cable, the the USB adapter should plug right into the Predator, since it will be the right plug.
Having said that, I would not advise returning the cable. Usually, the USB-serial adapters don'thave a very long reach, so you'll end up having the Predatorright up against the PC, forcing you to hand hold the unit the entire time it's plugged in, depending on your PC's configuration. Even worse if your PC only has rear USB ports. I would keep the serial cable.
Out of curiosity, what make and model is your computer, if I may ask?

Agreed. Modern printers use USB. Older ones (and still some modern ones) use the parallel port, not the serial port. Most laptops still include a parallel port for connection to older printers, and almost all desktops do as well.
But, we're getting off-topic here. The Diablo will need the serial, and for your laptop, that means a USB-serial adapter. Like has been posted, they can be had for fairly cheap if you shop around. One place I go for almost all my computer gear is NewEgg, they consistently have the best prices. Try them. Great service and lightning quick order processing. I highly recommend them.
