Does anyone else have issues with how the Predator is being represented? The company claims that you can change 500+ parameters but that is not true unless you buy their very expensive Chipmaster Revolution software. You can change as many parameters as your dealer allows you to through a custom tune. But then if you need to make more changes you have to pay more money for the custom tune. And a custom tune will not give you the same range of parameter changes. So, for example, if you bought the C&L CAI and it came with a Predator tune, what do you do when you have to upgrade to nitro, or change your shift points, etc...

If anyone feels the same way and you feel like you have been stuck with a product that is not what you thought it was going to be please email me at dsp AT sitedomain.net with your model number and date of purchase. Me and a few other folks are trying to assess if we the consumer have a case against the company. This is in no way an attempt to slam the good efforts put together by all the users, vendors and tuners, but it is an effort to improve the product offering and the overall experience of the Mustang owner.

Proof is in the pudding:

I found the following in a forum:

"...You have to have the Chipmaster software to burn over the chip. Otherwise, the process is as follows: Download the stock tune into the Predator, upload it and send to DiabloSport along with the custom tune form (this has to be done before the KB or anyother chip is added), they burn a custom tune based on info you provide them for $120, download that tune and upload it into the Predator, then into your car. The nice thing is you only pay the $120 once, then adjustments to the tune are free, unless they are major, like adding the S/C. Advice: If you go this route, don't get a custom tune until you are ready to add the S/C. Then they can tune for the blower along with all of your other bolt ons. Until then, use the Predator to make adjustments in conjunction with a dyno..."

The following is from Diablosports' FAQ section:

Predator: The question I have is this, when you put the tune into the vehicle....does it use the stock program parameters to make adjustments for the power or does it just load a program for it to run on...Does it matter what flash you have from FORD...I would think if it just takes the stock program out and keeps it for replacement then it really doesn’t matter then right?

The predator does actually use factory parameters to make the tunes. The flash you have from ford actually does matter, so make sure you have the latest update for your tool, and the latest update from ford, because our predator runs from their code. If the new flash is put in your computer and the predator is not fully updated, you run the risk of the tool not being able to recognize your vehicles PCM.

Predator: When I plug in my Predator to my vehicle, I get the message, feature not supported on this vehicle.

This error message means that the calibration in your vehicle needs to be added to the Predator. Most likely it can be fixed simply by updating your Predator. Click here to make sure you have the latest update: http://www.diablosport.com/Downloads.php
If you do in fact have the latest update and still get this error please contact our tech support line at (561) 908-0040 (2 for tech)

############################################

Predator: What is the factory hp tune? and I choose the diablo tune is that the correct one?

The factory HP tune allows you to changes parameters in the stock tune without adding HP. For instance, if you do not want to give your vehicle a performance tune, but would like to remove the speed limiter or correct the spedo for tire size - you would use the Factorty HP tune.

############################################

Predator: I have a 2005 Mustang GT. I have only put Flowmasters on the car. I have K&N cold air kit (air charger) on order. Both are specifically designed for the 05. I received my tuner today. I tried the "87 octane" tune and the Diablo Performance tune, both produced "pinging" upon acceleration. So both times I re-installed the original backup, and the "pinging" stopped. What do I need to do, to get the most out of my new tool? or perhaps I need to do nothing?

The tool is designed for a STOCK mustang out-of-the box. Because the 2005 Mustang is so sensitive, even changing tire size can throw it into 'fail safe'. With the mods you have done, it is recommended you get a custom tune or bring it to a authorized chipmaster revoltion dealer who can make a program for you specific application. For more info on custom tuning, click here : http://www.diablosport.com/customtuning.php

############################################

Predator: My Paxton supercharger kit for my 2005 Mustang GT came with a Predator (as a kit) that doesn't allow me to modify any of the perameters I would like (such as rev limiter, shift points, A/F, etc...) Can someone please contact me via phone so that I can take care of this sooner than later? There are no local dealers in Phoenix AZ that have software to tune my '05.

Unfortunatly, predators made for SC kits have the adjustablity that the particular OEM will allow. Most supercharger manufactures limit the amount of adjustablity so that the end user can have a 'safe tune' with there product. If you need more adjustablity for your particular comibination, you would need a custom tune. This custom tune can only be made at an experienced Chipmaster revolution dealer. Location is usually not a factor as the tune can be emailed. We do however, recommend you get it tunes at a dyno thought, as every car is different and would take many tries to get it dialed in by email.

############################################

Predator: My question is about the predator i have. It is for the 05 mustang. It is the one that came with the c&l intake kit. I cannot adjust certain parameters such as shift firmness, rev limiters, etc. Why is this? Also, i do plan and making further modifications, such as headers, x pipe, cm delete plates, etc. What will i have to do as far as tuning?

The C&L Predator comes with the parameters that C&L approves for end-user adjustment. It does not include the full-range of adjustment that a regular Diablosport Predator allows. That being said, either predator (in its produced form) would allow the adjustment you need for the extensive mods. You would need to get a custom tune. You can get a custom tune from any of our Chipmaster Revolution dealers that have 2005 mustang tuning experience.

############################################

ChipMaster Revolution: I am a DiabloSport dealer, I have a Dyno and want to buy the Chipmaster Revolution software. How do I buy Chipmaster Revolution?

Chipmaster Revolution software is only availible to our dealers directly through DiabloSport PTD. You can reach us @ 561-908-0040 for this or any other products.

Email me and tell me in person. I will give you my phone number. This is not about suing, it is about improving the product and the overall experience. You may want to read that first post again a bit more carefully this time!

I hear what you're saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In general canned tunes have limitations to their adjustablility put in place by the tunner of these canned tunes so that it garuntees a safe tune for the customer. I'd assume that these specific tuners do this so that they may protect themselves from lawsuites and such from people tweaking their tunes to unsafe limits and causing engine damage then trying to blame them. Makes total sense to me.

Gotta remember, most people like that plug in and play factor!

I can understand where you're comming from. I don't understand that if this is bugging you so much, why don't you get your car dyno tunned and have the tunner at the dyno leave all the parameters unlocked so that you can tweak to your hearts content?

I originally had a Predator (U7140) with my C&L CAI. And I had no problems tweaking anything I wanted to... including shift points, rev limiter, tire size, gear ratio, timing, etc. In fact, the Predator was far more user friendly and adjustable than the SCT X2 I have now is. The secret is don't get a product-specific Predator (like the CL7140 for the C&L CAI), get the U7140. Then it's not limited due a specific application.

So... I don't feel like Diablo misled me or misrepresented it's product at all.

Ok, I know how to read and all, so what is the concern again

Oh, you mean the part about getting custom tunes. Yeah, I see you wouldn't want to actually want to pay someone for thier time or anything, I mean that's just absurd.

I should be able buy a tuner and on command turn my Mustang into a fire eating dragon if I want.

OR

What Dan said

(Mark this day, I agree with Dan)

I don't feel that the tuner has been misrepresented. I do think the single user version of ChipMaster Revolution software has. After reading ths thread I bought mine only to be disappointed.
