Low RPM, say 1300 or so in 2nd gear, you give it gas and there is a horrible rattle..until the engine builds torque and the RPM's raise. It sounds like you are dragging something on the ground.

 

Muffler bearings are shot. Time to take it in.

Sounds like spark knock, but there shouldn't be any spark knock in a brand new car, unless you have mods you haven't listed. Maybe spark knock at less than 1000rpm, but not 1300.

 

Where is the noise coming from can you tell??
Any aftermarket parts, exhaust, etc. ??

 

Mods: Bamachips 91 Race tune, C&L CAI, Corsa exhaust. I'm wqondering if it's just transmission lugging. I've jst never heard that this loud.

I agree with the "lugging". I spend most of my drive to and from work in traffic (DC) and if I don't downshift low enough it will lug a little bit.

 

H-pipe hanger rattle? That's what caused mine...

I pull out IN second gear sometimes, since i'm in traffic. It just keeps me from having to shift when i'll end up stopping again in a couple yards anyway... and mine "lugs" when pulling out...

look under your car and make sure there's not a honda stuck to the underside of your car.... you could be dragging on of those...

 

If the sound seems to be coming from behind the center console, this is the exact problem I had. Awful rattle at about 1200-1300 RPMS then it disappeared.

Turns out it was related to a TSB, don't remember the number, but look for the one about rattle behind center console. Two clamps and I haven't heard the sound since.

I tried the clamps, actually bought some t-bolt clamps from Summit rather than worm clamps...and it still didn't fix it entirely, but better anyways. Then when I put in my new street legal x-pipe, it went away completely.

My stock H-pipe didn't fit real well into the crossmember hangars in the first place. They were not centered in the rubber grommet. Another user here posted that their dealer ended up loosening the entire exhaust system from headers to mufflers and repositioned everything, problem solved.

Check to see if your hangars are in the center of the rubber and not pulling it to one side. If they're tweaked off to one side, that could be it.
