Dedicated Highbeams
Dedicated Highbeams
I'm looking at installing dedicated high beam lights on the car. I took the plunge a few weeks ago and installed HID's in the fogs and the headlights. They're great. Minimal glare to other drivers, really project down the road. Except, of course, the high beams. The different reflection pattern sends most of the light skyward and not in front of me, which makes them about as useful as the stock bulbs. So I'm definitely keeping the HID's, but the question is:
Can I buy and wire up a set of dedicated high beams?
I'm looking at two possibilities. Install projectors in the stock foglight locations (probably literally mounting them to the existing reflectors) and put in new fogs behind the grille.
Or mount the high beams behind the grille. See illustration below.

What do you all think about this idea?
And anyone know where I can get good high beams?

You have my attention. I have had HID kits in both my fogs and headlights for about a year. They are truely great. My headlights are hi/lo but it is the same wattage for both but when you hit the high beams I can see the tops of the trees around me but not any further down the road. So if you come up with something I'll be watching!!

karman, care to elaborate on your setup? Thanks
My driving lights only come on with highbeams and seem to shine together for a 1/4 mile or more.
Flick the stalk switch and all I show is regular low beams.
This is the original thread from when I did the conversion:
