D-specs and no boots... should I care?

Can I FIND the boots anywhere? Are they needed???? I had one post (on another board) that said they ran theirs without them and they were ok for it.

I got the D-specs today and I was surprised to see that there are no dust boot for the front Struts. I'm not re-using mine because I don't need to take mine apart.

Where can I get them? My Ford dealer says theirs come with the stuts and can't find them listed separtate for me. I called a local parts store... the looked for a while and gave up.

What I'm up to:
Maximum Motorsports front caster/camber plates
Steeda front lightweight radiator support
Steeda street swaybar endlinks
Roush front Springs
Roush rear springs
Roush front and rear anti-sway bars
Tokico D-specs w/rear remote adjusters

I just keep coming up with spare parts for the wifes car. She's happy about that...

They sent me new dust caps right away. I can send you mine, I did not use the Dpsec covers, I used the OE ones. They are much better, I would think you could pick them up from a local parts store.

Or you could toss a repair tech a few bucks to dismantle your origionals.

Besides the dust boots, you also need strut bump stops and the lower spring insolator (looks like a hose around the bottom most coil). All of which can be taken off the stockers. My original intention was to avoid dis-assembling the stockers like you but I ended up just taking them apart for the dust boots and bump stops. I got tired of running for parts.

Oh, I also needed the stock upper isolator to use with a set of Steeda HU Street adjustable uppet strut mounts.

I wanted to keep mine intact for the wife swap someday.... She may need them if she keeps her car long enough....

Well, I shall call a few more parts stores tomorrow then. Or I could check junk yards... haha I think it is weird that they didn't have them in the box. So then, I "should" have them on the car in your view?

Should take you up on the offer? Was there something inferior by a large margin about theirs I think yu may laugh at me for choosing theirs then. haha. You will always have that on me.

I did not install the bump stops, in fact removed the rear ones all together. But mot is right, you need to swap that insulator over. I would imagine you would get noise from them if you did not.

Its hard to explain the difference in the dust covers. The Dspec ones were only a dust cover, petty plain. The OE one have like a washer on top, making them fit a little better, and keeping more crap from getting in there.

The only part I could not source was the dust covers. Like you posted - they are only available as part of the strut assembly. I got lucky when I bought a set of take-off springs on ebay and the guy threw the stockers in the box. I was able to get bumpstops from ground control and the spring isolator is also available from Ford - unbelievably expensive though - I recall around 13.00 each.

While frowned upon by some, I picked up a set of McPherson type strut spring compressors (two threaded compressors that mount on the outside of the coil) for about $60 to $70 from maybe Harbor Freight tools. I used these to disassemble and reassemble both strut/spring assemblies after I removed them from the car with no problems.

I believe you might be able to rent a different type of manual compressor from a local autoparts chain store, probably cheaper than what I paid for mine so there is no real reason not to disassemble ths stock stuff.

But keep us posted either way. Others that follow could probably use the info on sourcing these other parts.

ah... I have the compressor for doing the install I just wanted to keep the OEM struts intact, in storage, unadulterated/molested.

thank you for your kind help though, I am still losing this one.

I am STILL NOT ABLE to get the pieces. I have O'reilly's, Autozone and Ford parts guy all looking here.... I really need someone that cares to find this stuff...

thank you guys. I really do want to get the stuff new.
