Cutouts?
With all this H Pipe stuff going on right now, I can't help but wonder about cutouts. I don't hear much about em on here, does anybody have them? Maybe even the electric ones? If so lets see some pics and clips!

I used to have electric cutouts on my old camaro, I loved them :-) I believe I read somewhere that our engines will loose quite a bit of torque with open headers/cutouts, that might be why you don't hear about them much around here.

I have them here at the shop, but they're too **** expensive, and nobody wants them!
They're jet hot coated, electric with warrantied parts, including actuators. They're $500 for the pair!

500!? no wonder nobody has picked them up yet! haha! The cutout pipe for my camaro was $30, and the electric butterly plate was $100. That setup you have right there looks much better though, I bet that actuator would provide a nice solid seal when it's closed, alot more pressure than a simple little electric motor would. Mine wouldn't quite seal, there would be a slight hiss/ticking sound if you listened real hard.

Yea, these are made really nicely, and great quality, worth every dollar of the $500. They're just outrageous priced, compared to the competition. But like you said, these seal perfect, no hissing, never any failures and lifetime warranty.
They're cool as hell. We put the same set on a Firebird with an LT1 all done up with a crazy roller setup, about 550RWHP. It would sit there silent at idle, he'd hit the button and it sounds like it was thundering out!

I have cutouts on my car. I had Adam weld up a couple stub outs on my X-pipe, and I bought the electric gates. I put the switch on my dash, and it takes about 2 seconds to open/close them. They are a really cool toy. I run with them open at the track all the time... check out some of my drag racings vids, or even the cutout vid (links in my sig).
Here are pics of the set-up.
And here is the switch:

It's actually difficult to find a good spot. The framerails, tranny, etc. seem to create quite a few inaccessible spots. That's why I went right off the back of my X with the custom stubs. It's almost a direct shot from the header collectors.

Don, did you do any tuning with the cutout open? Or have you noticed any power loss with it open? I could have sworn I read somewhere that cutouts on these motors (stock any way?) will loose a good amount of torque. Maybe that's different for a blown motor?

No special tuning. And I did not see any difference at the track either.
