I hate non-functional scoops so I cut a 3 inch hole in my hood yesterday to bring cold air into the engine compartment. Cut the hole at the back of the factory indent where you would put the shaker. Shaker looks to small and is too much $$$ so as many of you know I went with a Roush scoop and cut the hole. Going to fabricate a RAM air set-up if I can find parts to do so. Would like to get the pipe from CDC and fab a way to hook up to the hole when closed but I cannot get an email response from CDC???

Anyway now the scoop does not vibrate at all and at least I am getting some air to the engine to keep it cool. So anyone thinking about cutting the hole go ahead and do it, I don't regret it.

I'm definetely afraid, one wrong cut and I'm screwed. And that would not be a pretty site, neither me nor the car :bang:

Nice hood, is that plastic or firberglass, and where did you get the hood from?

did you feel any lower temp with the hood cut?

It is a factory hood with a Roush hood scoop. Just cut yesterday so cannot say yet on temp. changes.

Used a 3 inch hole saw and had no problem with chipping. Cut very easy since it is aluminum.

I've called CDC before and talked with them about some one of their 2005 projects. They were very helpful. You might get better response from calling.

Nothing. The amount of rain that will make it through the hood scoop screen and through the hold will land on the intake runners and runoff. Will not hurt anything until I get it plumbed for Ram air. Besides I don't try and drive it in the rain, that is what my beater car is for.

What about the exposed aluminum from the cut, did you protect it/seal it after the cut?

good thinkin!

and I was just thinkin about the pressure/volumn

I would almost think that there would be greater under hood force, and to small of an opening on the scoupe and that it would want to travel out, vs in. Or an equilization in the 2.

Im no scientist, just was thinkin...

Interesting post
keep us updated

IMO the one thing I like about my 70 Mach 1 shaker is seeing it move as you push the gas.
