Looks good. I figure a cam swap will work well on these cars, seeing as the stock cams were designed for a lower revving 5.4.

It can do a lot of things - depending on what you want.

Basically you shift the horsepower and torque curves depending on the cam profile. Since the cam shape controls when and how far the valves open and close (and the rate at which they open and close), the personality of the engine is primarily a function of the cam.

There is a lot involved, but generally a "towing / RV" style cam will develop loads of low-end torque at lower RPMs and sound very stock. Good for a heavy vehicle or one that is used to tow a trailer. Performance will be flat.

A "racing" or performance style cam will develop the horsepower / torque at higher RPMs, and sound very choppy. I have that style cam in my Impala and I get a lot of compliments on the sound. Generally, performance cams are known for poor gas mileage and may require a performance (high stall) torque converter for automatic transmissions.

In the past, there were usually a half dozen "standard" cam profiles to choose from for Ford, GM and Mopar engines. It will be interesting to see what is developed for the new Mustang...
