Comp Cams Question?
#62
See as far as I'm concerned I tell people all the time, yeah go get some cams they're great, or yeah go get a blower it's great, but I a lot of times forget to mention that I go smokin deals on both my cams and my blower and all my other mods for that matter. Also I, with the help of some friends installed everything on my car. I paid half of what a set of cams and springs and retainers cost for mine and less than half of what it costs for my procharger. These aren't cheap modifications, however deals can be had on superchargers if you're patient. Also realize that a lot of these guys making all the power in the world on these cars, they aren't driving them daily. My car is my daily driver and it is cammed and blown.

I looked through the thread to answer a question I had but didn't see anything about it. I 've been looking at stage 3 comp cams and have seen that valve springs are required but have not seen where retainers are required. What are the benefits of upgrading the retainers from stock? And what would happen if you don't?

I think you need the new retainers due to the new spring design for comp (beehive) and added strength. I could be incorrect though. They usually come w/ the package you purchase. I am going to use new springs w/ retainers just for added safety. Also, JDM does not sell the GT500 TB w/ spacer for $299.00 any more. I called them and it is now $399.00 plus shipping.

One can only hope...
When I called they said the 50 at the $299 are all gone. $399 is the new price. I told them I would buy one right then if they could offer me the $299 but they did not take it.

I heard they are like over $2000, so definitely start savin up if you want that one. Or you could do some research on getting your plastic stock manifold ported somehow...
