I think this topic has been discussed before but I searched twice and can't find it. Anyway, this is my first manual transmission car and I know it has a hydraulic clutch which makes the feel a little different but does anyone else notice that the clutch seems to engage a little high up or is it just me? Don't get me wrong it engages very smoothly but it just seems like it doesn't catch until the pedal is nearly released.

Thats a good thing! Less travel means quicker shifts.

Yes, but if it engages high it could be a sign of clutch wear.

Just making sure that it is normal. Like I was saying, its the first manual transmission I have owned. I have driven others but only briefly so I don't have much to compare it too.

It's my first manual too, and it seems high. Others more familiar with stick also say it's high. I think I might have an easier time with it if it was a bit lower. But you're right, it doesn't seem to engage until the last inch or two. The manual says to shift with the pedal all the way to the floor, (which I know is debateable), so then the travel's a bit much, but I'm getting used to it.

It catches pretty high to me as far as i'm concerned. However, all the GT's (5 of them) I drove before mine all caught the same way. It's especially high compared to my old Jeep Wrangler. That clutch caught almost at the floor.

I love the stock clutch. I had a '01 GT with a CenterForce and it didn't even feel as good as my '05.

As soon as I drove the car for the first time I said the clutch needed to go. My stock clutch as trashed before 8000 miles. Not even really abusing it. Some hard stuff, but nothing crazy. I got a centerforce dual friction stage 2 last week and I've never been happier. Stiff Clutch > *

Yes, the stock clutch engages way too high. And it being hydraulic sucks as well.

Ok, just making sure I wasn't the only one experiencing it. Like I was saying, not driving a manual before this I had nothing to compare it too. By the way, how much roughly does it cost in labor to have an aftermarket clutch put in?
