I am curious to know if anyone has had this problem and if a solution exists:

At low speeds, mostly when pulling in and out of parking lot spaces a clunking noise is heard. I am quite sure that the noise is from the rear, not the front. This has been confirmed by several passengers.

I suppose it could be the exhaust, but I have a feeling it is the suspension.

Any ideas, would be useful..

Have you looked to make sure there is nothing loose in your trunk like the spare?

mbradsha75 - you're not hearing things.....mine does the rear suspension "klunk" on occaision as well. I did check under the rear and everything appeared tight and together. Mine only klunks once in a while - so I can live with it for now - curious my '00GT had a similar noise.

I had a clunking/grinding noise. They replaced the differential and clutch packs. Problem Solved.

You guys having this clunking when changing the amount of RPM's going to the drive train? Try this... go into first, accel, second, accell a while, clutch in, coast about 2 seconds and pull clutch back out. Hear the clunk? It's almost as if a universal joint was loose.

What are the clutch and tranny packs? Bearings?

I also have a light grind in first gear. These trannies stink! but, wth the car is awesome.

Thanks for any info. I already went into the dealer and of course my mechanic rubbed his head and scratched his belly button and said, well my jeep makes that sound too. Oh krikey! Where do they find these guys?!

the noise I here coming from the rear of my car isn't related to the transmission, only low speed. If i'm not in gear at all, I still here the clunk. And i think the reason I don't here the noise at higher speeds is because whatever is loose is vibrating fast enough to not allow me to here it.

The mufflers sit just below brackets and sheet metal. If its a muffler jumping and hitting metal, you can ignore it until you get it fixed.

If it's not that, then something much worse is going on, and you risk damage to suspension or driveline. Get it to the dealer.
