Today we put on the C&L CAI and downloaded the Diablosport predator 93 tune. When we took it out to test things out the check engine light came on. Can't seem to find out why. I tried searching the Diablosport manual and did a search on here. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm a little nervous about driving it with this light staring back at me. Could I damage the engine.........

Pull up the trouble codes with your Predator and that should tell you why the light is on. Most times it is due to the MAF sensor not sealing correctly.

What version of software is in your Predator - newest is r21 for Predators that boot with the DiabloSport logo? The Custom Tune online will only work with r17 or newer if you are using a Predator that boots with the DiabloSport logo. Which version of DS Downloader are you using on your PC - should be version 1,2,6,0?

Driving with the CEL on is not advised. Need to find out why the light is on.

Do a search on CEL. I know it has been discussed in relation to most CAI installs

OK, here's what I know, we didn't actually download a tune off of the website. The tune was already in the Predator. What we downloaded into the car was the Diablosport Performance tune. I know I'm going to sound stupid here but is this the 93 tune? We didn't modify it at all. The version of the software is r21 and the downloader that my husband put on the PC is 1.2.6.0.

That's your problem. The tune that comes with the U7140 Predator is not for the C&L CAI.

You must: download the C&L CAI Custom Tune from the website to your PC, send a copy of the original backup tune to your PC using DS Downloader and then install the C&L CAI Custom Tune into the Predator using DS Downloader. Once the Custom Tune is in the Predator you can install it in the vehicle just like you did the Performance Tune. Do you have the power supply and PC cable to transfer data from the Predator to your PC and then install the Custom Tune into the Predator? Do you know what your CALID is?

PS: if you didn't modify the Performance Tune it is a 93 octane tune.

Todd, thanks for the help. Yes the Predator came with the power supply and PC cable. I don't know what my CALID is but I'll find out tomorrow morning. Now if I understand this correctly I will have to restore the backup original tune to the car before I can then download and install the custom tune right? Ok one more question I almost hate to ask...did I do any damage to the engine driving it with the wrong tune? We actually just drove it around town to "test" it out. I have to say, even with the wrong tune there was a big difference in the car's performance! Will it be even better with the correct tune?

No damage - many others have made the same mistake. No you do not have to restore the original backup tune into the vehicle. Just get the Custom Tune in the Predator and flash over the Performance Tune.

PS: reread my post - makes more sense this time.

Ok, yes it does make more sense. I can now stop having my anxiety attack and go to sleep without worring about having done damage to my girl. I just printed out the DS Downloader instructions and I'm set for the morning

Thanks again Todd!

Helllo, This is my first post.

Jersygirl, I put it in the c&l and diablo preditor in my car today, using the c&l tune that come preloaded in the predetor.

I drove it around town for a couple of miles, with no problem with the check engine light.

FYI

I bought my c&l and diablo predetor as a kit from c&l performance. It came preloaded with the c&l tune. Did you buy them seperately? That is probably why it does not have the c&l tune

Cathy just out of curiosity, did you run the gas tank down to almost empty and refill with a good quality 93 octane gas before installing the Performance Tune? If not, I would avoid heavy acceleration until you get a full tank of 93 octane gas in the tank. Using a lower octane gas with a 93 octane Performance or Custom Tune can result in detonation which can cause engine damage.

Randy - yes she bought them seperately (not the C&L Predator). That is why her Predator didn't have the Custom Tune for the C&L CAI already installed. She purchased a U7140 which boots with the DiabloSport logo. I know that because she has r21 software in the Predator and that only came in the Predator that boots with the DiabloSport logo.

Todd, I had about 1/4 - 1/8 of a tank when we installed the performance tune. We went right down the hill from our house after that and filled up with 93 octane gas before taking her for a test ride.

Funny thing is we did buy the C&L CAI together with the Predator tuner from RPM outlet. It was option C on their website. Todd one more dumb question. You said that I didn't have to restore the original tune before I install the custom tune, just flash over it. Did the CALID for my car change when I installed the Performance Tune. I never got the number when the car had it's original tune. So I didn't know if I needed to restore the original to get that number. Thanks for your patience, this is the first time I've ever done anything like this.

Todd I see that you have the FRPP shorty headers. Did you dyno before and after the install, and how hard was them too install?

Cathy the CALID does not change when you install the Performance Tune or a Custom Tune. Have you located your CALID yet? Follow the attached procedure to find your CALID.

Randy the FRPP shorty headers only increased about 3 RWHP. Not very impressive. Installation was a bear - I installed the shorty headers on jack stands not on a hoist.

Todd yes found the CALID. Also checked the error codes. There were two. Both said too lean. We're going to download the correct custom tune and go from there.

Ok, we're all done and it's perfect now. We flashed the custom tune for the C&L CAI over the Performance tune. No CEL!

Wow.....I thought this car was quick before, now it's just amazing! The power just plants you back into your seat. And there is a difference in the way it sounds.....much throatier sound on acceleration. I've been like this all afternoon! Just when you think that this car can't get any better or more fun to drive it absolutely does! To quote my husband...."God it's like a rocket!"

I could see the wheels turning in his head as he drove the Mustang ....."need more power for the Vette now!"

Todd, thanks again for all your help. TMS and all the people here just the best around!

Ok...here I go sounding stupid again...but...

I got my K&N and Predator from RPM Outlet also.....Installed both with NO check engine light problems.

I don't have my manual with me...but I SWEAR....my octane tune is 91...NOT 93.

As far as I know mine din't have a K&N specific tune..... Do I need that? I have the computer cable to download one if I need it.

I am quite happy with the whole setup and unless I have a CEL problem or the K&N specific tunes creats GOBS more horsepower...I am gonna leave it as is.

Oh...I had a full tank of 93 octane when I did the tune.

I am not familiar with K&N products. Are you referring to a filter or CAI? Are you using a U7140 Predator that boots with the DiabloSport logo using r21 software? I believe all Performance Tunes are 93 octane and must be modified for use with 87 or 91 octane. I am not using either the canned Performance Tune or the K&N product.

PS: If you don't have any CEL issues don't change it. Don't fix what isn't broke! You could always look for trouble codes with your Predator just to be safe.
