changed oil for first time, noticed small hole in bell housing

This is probably a dumb question but..Is this normal? I was changing my oil the other day and noticed a small square hole in my bell housing? I would go take a pic but its crappy out..

Yes it's normal. It scared me the first time I saw it too.

I also noticed mine when I was doing my headers. I doesn't look like it is supposed to be there, it just looks like I bottomed out and made a hole in the housing.
