Which Cams??
I am going to get a set of cams for my 2009 GT in the near future. I am having a hard time deciding which comp cams set to get. Here are the options:
1. Comp cams stage 2 XFI NSR
2. Comp cams ***** Thumpur stage 2 with cam phasers.
I have talked to Brenspeed about doing the install for me, they are 4 and a half hours away from me but are way cheaper than Modular Depot and Cincy Speed shop on the cams and install. The XFI cams do not require the cam phasers and the thumpurs do. The XFI set has a slight lope to them and the Thumpurs have more lope to them. My other mods are pypes LT, off road x pipe, mac axle backs, c&l racer CAI, trick flow UDP, steeda charge motion delete plugs, and 64mm t-body. I may or may not add a supercharger or nitrous later on down the road. What are every ones thoughts??

the performance the two add are about the same. some people say you lose some driveability with the thumpurs, but a lot of people i have talked to with big cams in their cars say that there is not much difference in the driveability.

Don't use the Thumper cams if you do any big city heavy traffic driving. The nice lope sound they have makes our cars drive like crap at very low speeds at low RPM. Thumpers are not good at all for creeping along in a traffic snarl. Same goes for the Ford Hotrod cams.

It would be best to use a "blower grind" cam for superchargers. They may or may not have a blower grind in the Thumpers series, but I'm not sure of that. Certainly you can use a blower with almost any cam, but the blower grind will optimize the power output. I was considering putting Thumpers or Hotrods in my Bullitt until I read about all of the low speed low rpm drivability issues. I have reconsidered and will probably go with a stage 2 series late this spring.

when i first got in contact with brenspeed about the cams i told them that i may or may not add a supercharger or nitrous later and they suggested the XFI NSR stage 2 cams. they can install a set of these for just under $1000. as for drivability issues, let me know your thoughts on this, but my car is not a daily driver. when you say driving at low speeds with the thumpurs, how low? what are the issues you are reading about or hearing about?

Been watching this thread. I have had Comp NSR cams installed since Feb. 2008. Brenspeed installed them. I had a custom dyno tune and the cams netted me a strong 25 rwhp. I was at Brenspeeds in the spring for their dyno day and talked with a fellow that had the Thumpurs installed at Brenspeed a few weeks earlier in a Roush. He loved the sound but told me he has some low speed cruise and idle issues and Brent was working on the tune to correct. Not sure what the final outcome was but they seem to have baggage that comes with the Thumpurs.

new ring and pinon are in the plans for later on as well. i was going to do motiv 3.90 set but seems like a lot of people are staying away from them and going with the frpp, so i will probly do the 3.73 frpp set. but that will happen after cams cause i will not have to drive to brenspeed for that. as far is the low speed from 5 to 10 mph, most of the places i drive do not have heavy traffic and the average speed limit around here is 35, but who drives that in a mustang. lol.
