Is a CAI/tune really worth it?
Hi! Jasson, 3 months ago I have no idea what a tune was or how it was intalled, gains, warranty issues, etc., My biggest fears were
1. How to install the CAI in the engine bay
2. How to "tune" the car with the device is provided... I can tell you It is really easy to install and tune, you can found a lot of info in this forum
I bought my combo at BAmachips... WOW , I have an auto an it is a different car, I wish I had this mod early... its a big difference, I dont now how many hp are actually in my car but I am 110% satisfied
Take the next step, you will love it!

I have asked the same questions you are asking and have had some great help. For starters, go to:
http://www.bamachips.com/store/index...products_id=25
and read about the tunes. It talks about the difference between the performance and torque tunes and mentions race tunes.
As for the octane, thats obviously where you chime in. If your gas stations have 93 octane, then ask for a 93 tune (ie, perf, torque or race).
Closest gas stations for me are all 92, so I asked for a 89 race, 91 race and a 91 torque. I also asked him if he could tweak the tune and make it a 92 race since that's what octane I have.
As I have been told, you will be ok to run a lower tune with higher octane (ie, 91 race tune with 92 octane gas), but dont run a higher tune with a lower octane (ie, 93 race tune with 89 or 91 octane gas).
I just ordered mine about 4 hours ago, so if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
oh and yes, the tuner comes with the 3 tunes you request and if your looking at the bamachips page, you will see how it asks you for all that information with your purchase of the tuner.

Yep. Plug the tuner in, choose what tune you want, and it will load the tune into the cars computer.
Different octane tunes are just that. Tunes for diff. octane gas. The higher the octane, the more spark advance the engine can handle, and that means more power. Granted, you may only see about a 7-10hp increase between 87 and 93 octane, but it does make a difference.
You must run gas greater than or equal to the tune you have. If you are running a 93 tune, you need to run 93 or greater gas. DO NOT run less octane than you are tuned for, you can damage your engine. If you are running an 87 tune, you can use any gas 87 or above.

So I ordered the C&L from brenspeed, but where do I specify what octane tunes I want and what other mods I have? Does he send me an email later? I will probably come back here after I have trouble installing the intake.
Once you have the device you tune it yourself. If you go to the BRENSPEED, BBK BMR SCT STEEDA MAC PYPES SLP MUSTANG PERFORMANCE PARTS site there is a video that explains the installation process.
When I ordered my setup, I was given a choice of three, so I chose three performance tunes at 89, 91 and 93 octane.
Yes it's worth it. I've done it twice. Got the K&N Aircharger with Diablosport Predator "stock" '05 tunes and used that for about a year. Then went to the C&L Racer/SCTII from Brenspeed!
Install is about as simple as it gets and the response from the car is NIGHT AND DAY.
I started with a C&L street CAI and SCT xcal II w/ Brenspeed canned tunes over a year ago. Then I had the car custom tuned about six months later by Dan & Rob @ Prodyno. Rear-wheel HP went from approx. 260 (stock) to 293 (Brenspeed 93 tune) to 302 (Dan's tune). Rear-wheel torque went up to 317 lb.ft. Some of this 42rwhp gain came from the one-piece aluminum driveshaft, but most came from the CAI & tune. This equals about 49hp at the crank, and it's well worth the money!
Unless you want to drop another $5k to $8k into your car, DO NOT drive a Mustang with a supercharger or turbo! If you do, you'll be bitten by the "more power" bug like I was. A 42rwhp gain is a blast, but add another 150rwhp on top of that......you will never stop grinning!
OK- you all have been warned!

Well the CAI has a larger MAF to allow more air in and the good ones have a heat sheild to keep the hot engine air away from the cool air coming into the intake. So yeah, the CAI makes a difference. The more cold air you can get into your combustion chambers the more HP you'll make.

Or is the Cai just a added cost for very little gain?
My car (and other tests) show about @8-12HP by running a 91-93 octane tune on a stock intake.
I always like the sound of the CAI at high RPMs.
Remember this is rear wheel HP,engine HP is more.
