Broken Parking Brake

Went to work this morning and when I pulle dup on the parking brake, nothing happened. It just moves freely up & down, no tension or clicks at all.

Took it to the dealer & they just called to tell me that the cables are all fine & that it is the parking brake lever itself that is bad. They can order me a part & have it repaired by tomorrow, but it will cost me $250 installed.

My question is, has anyone ever repaired the parking brake assembly (the part that is in the console) and if so, how difficult is it to do?

I could get the part ordered & do it myself if its not that hard. Just don't want to mess it up.

Does anyone have access to the ford DVD that could maybe post or send me the directions on how to replace it?

Thanks

Do you have the MGW e-brake handle?
I do, and when I screwed in the allen screw to hold the handle in place the e-brake did just as you explained. I backed off the allen screw and the e-brake worked fine.

If you have to replace the lever assembly, you might think about putting on the leather covered one from the GT500, it will look better than the plain plastic one.
