Have any of you done anything other than paint the calipers? I need some advice on upgrading the brakes from someone that has already made the plunge. I do litte autocrossing but it's also my daily driver. I've heard that ceramic makes a big difference. Can I just change to ceramic pads or will I have to upgrade the entire brake system?

Ceramic pads, don't they cost and insane amount of money?

Nevermind, I was thinking of the setups on the Ferrari's and Race Vettes.

I have upgraded my entire system with SSBC 's brake kit (stainless steel brake) on the front and Powerslot rotors w/hawk pads in the rear. This makes a HUGE difference in pedale feel, brake fade and overall stopping distance..I definately recommend it

If you don't mind my asking how much did it cost for the upgrade?

Yea, I'm interested as well. I look up Roush's brakes and ran away after seeing $3000+ stare back at me.

Stay away from Saleen and Roush and the like, they are just trying to rip you off with most of their "parts".

Well i have a friend that works for Stainless steel brakes so I got a "good guy" deal as well as a buddy who works for Powerslot.I believe the front set from SSBC retails for about $1100 and the powerslot rotors are about $350 for the set along with the hawk pads. The SSBC kit uses Hawk pads on the front as well. Also, SSBC just released a rear system as well for about the same retaal price as the fronts

Chris, thanks for the info. I don't doubt that you've got one great setup, but that's a little too rich for my blood right now. I think I'll try going with the ceramic pads and see how that works out.

Have you checked to see what the difference is in the stopping distance with the Hawk HP plus pads vs. the stock pads?

$1100 sounds a lot more friendly than $3000 I think that mishap with the curb a month ago may have messed up my rotor a little bit, so I was looking for bigger brakes to fill in the gap in my 18" wheels.

Does anyone know if just swapping out for bigger rotors on the stock calipers would provide any real performance gain?

I swapped my stock rear rotors for the powerslot ones and the hawk pads..I did this before the rear kit from SSBC was out.it is definately better than stock and I would recommend them.Actually if you guys are on a bit of a budget, just do the front and rear powerslot rotors with hawk pads and I can assure you it will be a big improvement over the stock system!

I'm switching to Raybestos Ceramic pads to get rid of the squeel and dust of the stock pads. I run Porterfield R4's or Hawk-Blues on my FFR Racecar and they stop like crazy but are filthy bad on the wheels.

I checked out SSBC's website and they aren't that much bigger than the stock GT fronts. I personally would think that just changing the OEM pads to Hawk HP+'s and stainless lines would be just as good.

no i haven't. but believe me i really didnt like the stock pads feel. as a few times the brakes got really hot and would not stop as good. these hawk pads work real nice.

Some of the best pads I've ever used (R4-S) http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/pads.html

If going all out for rotors and calipers look at these: http://www.ssbrakes.com/products/detail/51...005%20-%202005)
IMO much better than Saleen, Rouch and a lot less $$$

As a minimum get some decent slotted rotors and have them Cryo treated. Couple of sites on Cryo treatment:
http://www.300degrees.com/
http://www.stopyoucold.com/
http://www.alpinecryo.com/

I've got PowerSlot Cross Drilled Slotted Cryo treated rotors with the Porterfield Carbon Kevlars above on my daily driver. Recently put on the 2nd set after over 60K on the first set. No dust to speak of on wheels, Chrome rims looks as good as ever and cleans up easily. Will be doing the same treatment to the GT somewhere down the road

I recommend SS brake lines and a performance pad. I do not beleive that a "big brake kit" is needed. I have been very happy with Hawk Blue pads for heavy track use, with the exception of the horrible brake dust. Many people have been very happy with the Hawk Plus's, but I have not tried them yet. I have not been overly impressed with Hawk's HPS pads, I did not have a noticable improvment over stock.

I do not recommend cross drilled rotors, you can do a search and find many discussions on the negatives of cross drilling.
