I am ready to pull the trigger on a tune and CAI from Brenspeed and was wondering...what is the best CAI and why? There are so many to chose from I'm not sure which to get.

the difference between the CAI's that they sell are very minimal, if you ask brenspeed they will tell you the same thing as what I sugest. Get the one that looks best to you and that you can afford, you wont see much difference between the various choices.

 

Personally I think the JLT is the best bang for the buck.

 

+1. for the price, it is hard to beat the jlt.

I just happened to get the one that was available at the local autoparts store for my engine size which was the MAC. It was later that I realized I needed a tuner to get rid of the "check engine light." Hence this is how I hooked up with Brenspeed and in doing so I shortly realized that they offered the MAC & SCT Tuner as a package. From looking around various websites I soon realized that there were many CAI kits from different companies, as indicated by ETNIX you probably will not notice much difference between the various CAI available. Shop around and get one that you feel will look good under the hood.

Ok while I'm posting I might as well be helpful. Most of the CAI elbows are pretty even, C&L, JLT, Granatelli (who's been accused of ripping off C&L). Now before everyone freaks out, let me first say this isn't information I came up with, its from Springfield Motorsport, who have dyno tuned all of the above on the S197. There are 2 that stand out above the normal CAIs. The WMS and the Steeda high flow intakes. The WMS gives you a straight shot into the throttle body from the intake. The Steeda, they said yields the most horsepower, showing 40+ horsepower gains on their dyno. And yes it was a mustang dyno, and yes that's corrected for atmospheric conditions. I already asked all of that. And yes, they did know what they were doing. They specialize in mustangs and have awards from track competitions.

Beyond the intake itself you've got a couple choices for how the engine is tuned, and I've done all 3. The first is a Granatelli only option where you don't need to retune the engine. They have an inline module that compensates for the MAF. This is OK (you won't get a CEL at least). The second is to get a mail-order tune. The one I got from Tillman is a lot better than the Granatelli module, and I saw significant gains in HP, but still not the best you can get. I got dyno tuned at Tillman Speed, and found out that my mail-order tune was only making 273 RWHP. After the dyno run I make 289 (and that's after several pulls when the engine was pretty heat soaked). Really, unless you are really on a budget, I'd seek out a good dyno tune. Its completely worth the money.

 

Hands down for a intake that needs no tune , and looks simply awesome on the car I gotta go with my WMS cold air intake . There is a old thread on the web site with pics if you want to see what I did with it on my 05

 

I like my Steeda CAI, but I need a better tune than Steeda's.

 

I like my C&L but Steeda seems to be pretty good as well. I am sure you can't go wrong with any of the top brands.

 

Buy the one that you like best. The performance gains are mostly from the tune.

 

I think steeda and SCT combination is also good. They claim a huge HP increase. Please go to their website to know exactly how much HP increase.

All will give similar results but I went with the JLT...

 

I'm waiting on the Steeda kit, will post results...but only on the seat-of-pants dyno.

 

I'm running a no-tune airaid now. Probably will pick up a tune later. The airaid has a great fit and finish. Fits like a factory product and looks like one.

Lee, if your looking for a better tune than Steeda's. Contact Doug@ www.bamachips.com. Not only are his mail order custom tunes, so much better. But his tunes also get rid of those dreaded throttle hang/lag issues as well.


I've been running Doug's tunes with my Steeda CAI, for well over 2 years now. And couldn't be happier with my Mustang's performance.

I also guarantee you'll feel the same way, and will not be disappointed.

We have a great Steeda tune with our exclusive drive by wire calibration that will make your throttle response feel amazing! We get rid of all of the hanging between shifts, and all air fuels are optimized as well as timing.
