I have searched far and wide now for any info supporting the bbr stage 1 cams good bad or indifferent and have found nothing useful. I found a couple links on websites that were taken down, and a couple pics of cars that claim they have stage 1 cams but no numbers, dyno sheets, testimonials, soundclips or anything else. Looks like nobody is running them.

After reading about the need for spring changes, and retainer changes, and readin articles about the install process and the pain in the *** that it is, I am feeling like the best decision here is to scrap the cam install altogether.

Unless I can get some info about power and torque curves, and unless the stock springs and retainers can hold up to these cams I am going to cancel my order and go a different route.

Faber,
I am on your side. I also want to do a cam install some day. Simple question...What does BBR say to your questions about increased power and the valve spring and retainer question? When I went to the BBR website it said it was suggested to replace the springs and retainiers with their cam swap. Where did you see it was not necessary?

I talked to a guy named chris, and he told me the stage ones made more power by more duration as opposed to more lift and overlap. Without higher lift the springs would not be under any more stress than they were designed to handle. therefore it makes sense that they would not neccesarily need new springs.

he needs to give you some dyno #'s on several different cars. If you are going to drop 5-600 on parts THEY need to sell you on it.

So I found out the stock valve spring coil bind is at .512 and the stock springs are beehive springs to begin with. The BBR stage 1 cam is only .480 lift and I heard as long as you can subtract .020 from the coil bind number and the result is higher than your cams lift then you will not have any valve float. So it looks like the BBR stage 1 cams can go on the car without need for a spring change.

Talked to chris at BBR this morning and he said the stage one cams will lose a bit of low end power without a tune, but the drop can be tuned right out and gains will be seen accross the rpm range.

I decided to go ahead with these cams. I will be installing them, and doing a write up Taco Bill style (although he is the undisputed heavyweight champ in the write up category I will do my best)

thanks guys. Looks like the install will be pretty straight forward, and should take about 4-6 hours without having to replace the springs and retainers.

It looks like I will be needing an sct tuner rather than my predator since bbr prefers sct, and i will need an sct for the supercharger tune anyway.

so i will be selling the predator or trading someone for an sct...
