BBR Stage 1 cams

I talked to the guys at BBR, and am considering pulling the trigger on some stage 1 cams. Apperently there is no need to replace the springs and retainers with these cams, and the power and torque increase is a little better than comp stage 4.

I heard they are having some kind of sale on them on friday so I am thinking of snapping up some cams.

I know there were issues a couple years back with some BS claims about crazy power, but it has been a couple years now..

anybody dealt with them recently? anybody out there have stage 1 bbr cams installed?

I read some posts by emperorjordan that were quite positive. Anyone else want to chime in?

I just want to make sure I am making a good decision

Faber,
As you I also read the unrealistic claims made by BBR a couple of years ago. I honestly have not seen or heard of anyone posting anything negative since than. P.S. You need to update you signature for you latest mod!

I see alot of print ads and such from BBR......

but not the kind of prevalent customer feedback you see from say Bamachips, Brenspeed, Tillman, JDM engineering etc.....

As a matter of fact I think in all the myriad forums I check I have seen maybe 3 people using thier stuff and that's it.

Their big deal seems to be their Eleanor cars and the 'BBR girls'...

Personally I wouldn't send them business -
Emporerjordan seemed to have a good experience with his cams though.

If the stage I cams come down to a good price range for the friday sale I am going to buy them. I keep seeing cams advertised as requiring a spring and retainer swap, but i am not sure how much of that I believe.

can anybody shed a little light on why a mild cam would require springs and retainers on an overhead cam motor?

There are no aftermarket cams worth buying.
Sad but true.

doesn't Comp Cams make a good set for the S197s?

I heard that comp makes a good set as well. the reason the BBR cams appeal to me is they make their power with duration as opposed to lift, and since they don't have as much lift as the comp cams they stage 1 cams don't require new springs and retainers. If I can get close to the same power as the comp stage 3 or 4 cams, not have to buy springs and retainers, AND have a rough idle I am all over it. I figure this saves me about $500.00 and shaves quite a few hours off the install.

I do plan on a supercharger in the future so the stage 1 cams look to be the most logical decision.

Well if you search and look for cams you will see they are not a good mod. Nobody had developed a cam profile that works well with the VVT and makes any power. If you buy cams, springs and retainers then then pay 1200 or more for install you are talking about 2500 dollars for what?
a lopey idle? That is hardly worth paying 2500.
There are people running FI and stock cams and seeing 800 RWHP.
I care about making power not about having a lopey idle. Spending 2500 for cams is not worth it.

They are still 565.00!! That's an awesome price. So once you get them its only the cam swap? I could not find anything about retainers etc. on their website. Let us all know how the install goes!

edit: and what is the difference between billet and regrinds?
