Was browsing the BBK site and they have an intake manifold made and apparantly have tested the CAI. Not sure if this is a repost but here is the info:

New BBK 2005 GT cold-air system is tested

Our all-new 2005 GT cold-air-induction kit was recently tested and revealed a whopping 15 rear wheel horsepower increase on our otherwise stock 2005 Mustang test vehicle. This system features an all-new high-flow cast aluminum inlet plenum with a built-in mass air meter as well as one of our popular high-flow cotton element performance air filters. This kit will be available in a titanium finish for $329.95 and a chrome powder coating for $399.95 - and will be available at BBK distributors by June.

All new decorative intake manifold cover released for the hot 2005 Mustang GT
The BBK engineers have done it again with this awesome aluminum engine dress-up cover for the 4.6L 2005 Mustang. Cast from lightweight aluminum, this unit is cnc-machined for a great fit and is available in a titanium powder coat or a show-quality chrome powder finish. Pricing is $199.95 for titanium and $249.95 for chrome.

I love the looks of the cover, but it seems pricey. Do you guys think this will be the average cost of most aftermarket covers?

the cover is machined aluminum, no wonder the price is so high...

I am curious if the intake requires a reflash or not?

it states 15 horses without notice of a tune, and it looks just like the C&L CAI, seems u can get up to 15 horses on just about any CAI but to get more out of it you can flash or tune it and get up to 25, still a lil pricey for 15 horses, K&N's is only 260 and thats a good price for me

Wow - that thing really cleans out my wallet too....

I'm with you Tom - seems too pricey

Especially when I can take that 200-250 bucks and buy a CAI instead....

the cover retails in the 200 range

it will probably actually sellin the 150 range, which isnt bad, esp compared to a warped fiberglass piece

Man that cover looks awesome, I need a close up tho. I definitely will be looking for this in the future, unless I get the cdc shaker system.

Nice intake cover.....wish it didn't say BBK on it. Wonder if there's enough clearance with the strut tower brace installed?

I talked to RPM yesterday and asked about the MAC CAI. They say it doesen't require a tune and gives 18 HP. They also said a DP tuner will also give 18. That's almost exactly what I got on a Dynojet with the Diablosport 87 oct perf tune. They said there was no cumulative gain with the tune and MAC CAI, EITHER ONE GIVES 18 hp so get one or the other and put the $ elsewhere. WTF?

Actually; they state the cover is cast.

Appears the machining process is for the LOGO, grooves, sides and holes. Machine takt time ... maybe 10 minutes. With the machne centers they show, imagine doing batch processing of about 30-40/day on one center minimum.

 Last time I looked casting cost about a buck a pound. Would assume ROI for casting pattern/mold and program around 2-3 batches but assume the costs would be amortized ocer 400-500 units.

Chroming with logistic costs for a batch may be a little high. Hard to tell form the photo but the polishing and prep of the chrome process appears to be good quality and definately more appealing IMO.

If it could be bought without LOGO or with a running pony (licensing issue) would be more appealing to me. After initial production and more competition in the market would expect price to normalize around $100 plain and $135 chrome range more appropriate and still have a good margin.

So .... twice the price for a market leader, early bragging rights and innovation ,,, not really that bad.

WEll even tho the logo is there, you might be able to find a pony etc. that fits right over it. But I do like it for sure. Both items, cant wait to see them this summer. Hopefully they will get some better pricing by the time there actually out.
