B&M's new Autoshifter with Pictures..
#81
my point was only that there are a few things available that anyone could make some adjustments with, I personally like what they have put together, only tweakin for me will to have the bezel chromed and I would prefer a T handle, This shifter will be in my ride shortly after they become available, to me it is a lot "cooler" than the stock hum-drum shifter we currently have

I like the overall design but i still think the shaft is to tall/long. I love the way the stock piece fits my hand i just wish it had ratchet ability.

While I agree the visual appearance is important, I think a number of folks have forgotten the primary purpose of the autoshifter is more function than cosmetic. I'm still going to get one and add a "T" handle and enjoy what it's supposed to do.....allow me to manually shift my auto. I don't know about you guys, but my eyes are on the road anticipating the next hair-raising turn, not looking down at the bling in my cockpit.

So be it.. All of you have seen the pics from the inception of these threads. I mean, how much bling do you guys really want in this car?. We tried to keep somewhat of a "retro" type theme to this piece, but at the same time having it go well with the interior appointments. Like I have said from the beginning: We can' t please everyone

Well just to make a point. If someone wants it to be shorter, all they have to do is cut it down and have the end rethreaded right? I am sure any machine shop can cut it down and rethread it to whatever thread you want. Just my thoughts after seeing the post saying its too tall.

Yes, you could do that.. but, I can tell you our new shifter is almost the exact height of the stock unit, actually a tad bit shorter.. it just looks taller because of the "thin tubular stick with the round ball on top"

I too am suprised by all of the negativity in this thread considering the positive attitude in the original thread. I still want to buy one when released, my primary concern is function.
The auto in these mustangs responds well to manual shifting, just the stock shifter sucks. Being able to upshift, or more importantly downshift when approaching a turn, without fiddling with the shifter to make sure you are in the desired gear is what differentiates this product from the stock shifter. If you are more concerned with the bling factor, go get some billet pedals or something. If you don't see the need to manually shift your auto when cornering, then you don't need this shifter anyway.
IMHO, the shifter looks fine like it is, but I think I'll be going for a T-Handle as well as every auto I have ever driven had the T handle and I have become used to it.
Doug, I'll definately be in line for this one, just got to talk the wife into making it my xmas present She'll probably go for it 'cause she's a Mustang freak too and drives my stang every chance she gets.

***I know Doug had nothing to do with the design or creation of this shifter. I'm just stating my opinion on the look/design of it.***
Speaking only about the appearance I think it leaves much to be desired. Here's a few things I don't like about it:
The rod that connects to the **** looks cheap and could have had more style I.E. look something like the hurst handles. Or at the very least they could have shortened the length of the rod and put a leather cover around it. There's a million different things they could of done to make that look better.
The face plate could have been reworked to atleast make it look more oem. The whole design looks out of place in the car.
I was really excited when I hear B&M was making one but I can't and won't put something that ugly in my car. Well that's my .02 hopefully I didn't ruffle any feathers.

I agree completely. Maybe a picture with a T-handle would change my mind.
