Axel backs...performace, can you feel it?
Hi all,
I saw the Excel spreadsheet of axel back dyno tests on this site ( http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=41439 ). I've seen many people state axel backs have no performace gains (or 1-3 HP at peak gains)...but the spreadsheet shows about 40-50 ftlbs of torque (peak) in the low RPM range. So, my question is...can you feel this low end torque when driving? I would think that the torque in the low end would be very noticable in a daily driver. I'm not a racer, so I don't care as much about the peak HP at 6000 r.p.m. I don't know much about dynos or car tuning...so maybe the experts here can comment on this stuff. Will I feel any gains? Do shorty headers also add torque in this low RPM range?

Since those high tq gains occur over a very narrow band, I don't think they are really noticable. I have had two types of axlebacks on, and all I noticed was the great sounds!!
